@GSLLC @newbiedm I don't know the answer to that. Expanded crit ranges were present at the beginning of 3e and continued with 3.5. But I can't say if that was the impetus behind confirmation rolls. I don't like the rule as it feels bad to roll a crit, then have it fail to confirm.
