@DrTimBarber@Math_files But picking endpoints uniformly around perimeter doesn’t yield uniform probability density over circle area. The answer that has uniform probability density over area yields 1/2
@skumWgmi But actually none of that mattered. It was USA having 80% of the world’s industrial capacity after a total decimation of Europe thus inheriting a quasi monopoly over global markets.
Without property taxes, rich foreigners and corporations will just use it as a way to park their wealth with no downside whatsoever.
It’s a blunt way to punish the buy and hold behavior of these big investors and keep prices lower for locals.
It sort of forces local governments to protect property value since it’s tied to their tax revenue (low crime, desirability of the area etc)
There’s an inherent unfairness to how it scales. Your neighborhood becomes more in demand and suddenly you got to pay more taxes or move out.
That being said, a zero property tax would drive the prices up and rich foreigners may just buy and hold to park their wealth giving no chance for locals to own it. Having a maintenance price through property tax prevents that.
@paulswaney3 Property taxes affect everyone though. Renters pay for them via their rent. Whether you own the house or rode any economic boom is irrelevant.
@nrol_ling@OrukLabs It’s not that surprising. Speech is actuated by vocal muscles which puts a cap on how “fast” it can be. Typical human reaction time is 250ms so a 20ms fragmentation of speech simply approximates the original signal.
