Ironically, this is the only reason the British ended the Atlantic slave trade in the early 19th century. They no longer benefitted! What better way to undermine the upstart colonists who had the gall to rebel but not to extend any grace to their slaves and indigenous neighbors?
The only part of it I find interesting is that the supposed oppressors were more interested in exploiting the plight of the marginalized by offering to free slaves and stop settler expansion beyond the Appalachian mountains.
The American "revolution" has got to be the most boring but important historical event ever. A small group of landowners got sick of paying a pretty meagre amount of taxes and fought a stage managed war against an enemy that was totally asleep at the wheel
The American revolutionaries couldn’t even entertain the idea of mobilizing these groups against a hated empire. It was far more important to maintain their supremacy than to unite for a common cause.
The British went on to treat the rest of their empire horribly, and within their other American territories they continued to benefit from slave labor and the genocide of indigenous peoples.
If you look at the divergence between US and EU economic growth post 2008, it basically comes down to three things:
1) The US did more stimulus
2) EU banned fracking, US embraced it
3) EU squashed its tech industry, US did not
Oil is the most Lovecraftian thing that actually exists. You're telling me that there's a black ichor under the earth, made from the ancient dead, whose burning can realize all the dreams of man but only at the price of slowly returning the earth to its primordial state?
The deva in Hinduism are not “angels or benevolent spirits”. Those would be lesser nature spirits. The Bhakti tradition is a better representation of the devotion of Hindus to their gods than a single survey, and its closest parallel in Judeo-Christianity is the Song of Solomon.

2/3 of new electrical capacity being installed in 2025 is solar and wind (over 90% if you count battery installations to store that energy), and as we tweet, Republicans are gutting the law Democrats passed to make this possible. Who needs enemies when you have friends like this?
Democrats can’t get a crosswalk installed when they have all three branches, but it took Republicans 6 months to gut the entire US government like it was a Red Lobster.
