@HabsLaughs Who other than Fla and Tor has gotten better so far? Buffalo, Tampa, Ottawa, Detroit are all worse…we’re assuming our competition is improving based on rumours and speculation similar to Marchenko to Habs rumours
@the_habitant Tampa lost a 70pt d and no replacement, Buffalo lost Tuch, Greenway and Byram for zellweger and kampf, Detroit is losing larkin, Ottawa lost Tkachuk for eklund…
Literally only Florida got better and Toronto if you account for Mckenna.
Ppl need to get a grip
@EttedguiDavid So we beat Tampa and they lose a 70pt D and yet we’re firmly behind them.
We beat Buffalo and they lose Tuch Bryan and Greenway and replace them with zellweger and kampf and we’re firmly behind them.
I don’t get this alarmist ‘everyone in the Atlantic got better’ bs
@TomRoyce@MitchyGallo Yah it’s possible the solution is Hage or someone internal but I don’t think they’ll be able to jump right into that role.
The stankoven line has been insane this playoff
@KevinMassare@lee158 Now do it game by game - did the Sabres deserve to win 4? I’m genuinely curious- I can gtee they didn’t deserve to win at least 3.
@TomRoyce@MitchyGallo I think ‘depth’ is misleading - it’s the top end depth they need (their second line is a mess).
Bottom of the lineup i think they’re generally fine - maybe just add another decently skilled 4th liner who adds more physicality (Josh Anderson esque).
A 2C is an absolute must.
@PShearer91@BlueDuece2@domluszczyszyn@goalcauf Mtl got absolutely handled by Carolina and it wasn’t fun to watch BUT the analytics do not clearly show that mtl didn’t deserve to win their first two matchups.
@Brant_Berglund I feel like score effects is generally ignored these days - now I personally hate the way mtl plays with a lead but I would imagine the ice tilts for any decent team trailing as their going to throw everything at the opposing team.
@antoinefilli0n@Loubrass2@JFreshHockey Yes agreed - imo this is the one major hole the team needs to fill whether it’s a Rob Thomas, McTavish, or someone else.
Maybe Hage can grow into that but I wouldn’t want him in that role next season.
@Loubrass2@antoinefilli0n@JFreshHockey I agree they are not playing well but they also did not get line matched anywhere near this level reg season. No other 1C in the playoffs is getting anywhere near the matchups Suzuki is (the numbers bear this out).
But bottom line:
They need to be better.
@Loubrass2@antoinefilli0n@JFreshHockey Feel like this is alarmist - Slaf hasn’t been amazing and he’s definitely been bobbling the puck more but that line is just consistently getting the toughest matchups and assignments.
The gap in quality of comp between Suzuki and mtls 2C is larger then ever other teams 1c and 4
@antoinefilli0n@JFreshHockey Huge mtl fan here but the top line has pretty consistently been outplayed - I think they generated more against Buffalo (also gave up more) but they still haven’t cashed in or dominated like the regular season.
The good news is if they turn that around watch out.
@SBrooks_77@HabsLaughs Ya score effects are real but if instead of playing it safe and turtling in our zone with high flips to and constant turnovers we just continued to play the same way we did to achieve the two goal lead things would likely go much better.
