Imagine the most painful rejection you’ve ever experienced in your life, where you thought you were great for the person but he or she still said “no” anyway.
That painful experience of rejection is what Jesus felt during the Agony in the Garden—except on an astronomically greater level—as He processed every single sin of human history.
He mourns the loss of a personal relationship, even if it was a temporary loss concerning a future Saint. He mourns the years we’ve wasted sinning, despite the upcoming glory of His making up for lost time.
He doesn’t force love; rather, He will freely give Himself in love if it means restoring relationships that literally mean an eternity to Him, which is why He’s preparing to be tortured in a few hours, despite that He’s sweating blood wishing it weren’t necessary.
And He’s perfect. We are not.
Erika Kirk just publicly forgave her husband's killer. She said her husband wanted to save the lost boys of Western Civilization like him.
She ended this way: "Let that miracle that was Charlie's life be your turning point as well: Choose prayer. Choose courage. Choose beauty. Choose adventure. Choose family. Choose a life of faith. And most importantly choose Christ."
Amen.
May Our Lady comfort her. May the Lord bless her. May Charlie Kirk rest in the Peace of the Lord.
