Desperately trying to survive the IT warzone, stumbling through VR/AR/MR/XR... don't know what to call it anymore. (We're calling it 'spatial computing' now?)
๐ฃ This solo developer who currently works at Pixar as a Technical Director is building a VR rhythm game called Sock Puppet Superstar for Quest as an indie project, and over the last week he has been going viral on TikTok!
๐คFeatures/Tech:
- Using Unity, OpenXR, hand tracking, and a custom voice synthesizer built in FMOD
- Raise and lower your puppet to control the pitch
- Works with hand tracking or controllers
- Customize your sock puppet with colors, fabrics, accessories, and voices
๐ Devs can achieve this using the Meta XR Interaction SDK or Unity XR Toolkit (XR Hands) to add full hand support like whatโs shown here.
๐ Share this to give this solo indie dev more visibility! Iโll continue this bi-weekly with more indie devs who deserve the amplification!

In 2021, I asked an executive at a major XR company what the real difference was between VRChat, Horizon Worlds, and Rec Room.
I had just started digging into social VR, and to me it felt like a fundamental question. But maybe big companies were just too confident at the time, because his response was: we can try them all.
Five years later, Horizon Worlds and Rec Room are gone, while VRChat keeps putting up new highs.
What still surprises me is that even today, many people in the industry seem unable to tell these three paths apart. It is not just the mainstream media. A surprising number of insiders still seem to think VRChat will end the same way.
