@LeoSpalteholz I don't get this perspective at all from the left. I mean, yes, incentivize PBR, but why would the left want all real estate owned only by the wealthiest? It'll further increase the wealth gap, not to mention these homes are an incredibly important part of our rental stock.
Those older 3/4 storey apartment buildings everyone says we need more of only got built because of Federal tax incentives in the 60s and 70s.
They started as market rental and for several decades became more affordable over time. That's the power of a GST waiver. 👇
When I started working in urban development 35 years ago Canada had 1/3 less population than today. 1985 housing completion were 216,532. In 2022 there were 219,942 housing completions. Housing starts fell below 200,000 during 9 years since the new millennium.
Builders will build the homes they think will turn a profit (like anyone who operates a business).
That's this.
These homes have no approval risk or layers of added costs/fees & requirements. If we want attainable homes, we need to make more attainable homes easier to build.
I’m excited to announce my novel — Radio Jet Lag — will be released by @cormorantbooks on June 17th.
Elevator pitch: WKRP meets Best Laid Plans, with a healthy dose of sleep deprivation.

Imagine we set out to tackle climate like an elite athlete: Long-term stretch goal, hitting short-term targets. Working hard every day to make progress. Innovating. Digging deep. Never giving up.
Imagine the finish line is healthy planet for all. That's what winning looks like.
I’m staggered by the lack of reaction to the IPCC report. There’s almost no significant action. I don’t think we can get it until the media screams the full truth to the public & I see almost no one in the media who understands that this is true: New tactics needed urgently.
@KHayhoe always on point with urgent but positive messaging on climate action. Thank you @mattgallowaycbc for great questions and providing the airspace: Latest stark warning on climate change doesn’t have to be paralyzing: climate scientist https://t.co/GqoDyWb44P
There's no meaningful distinction between high tech and low tech, especially for buildings.
Concrete, the material invented by the ancient Romans, is "higher" tech than CNC-fabbed wall panels made out of carbon-sequestering straw, wood, or hemp?
After a week of customer rides, the B4 went straight into durability testing. In short, this process helps the team fine-tune the already-fine-tuned systems to be as safe and dependable as possible before production begins later this year. More testing details to come. Go team!
There’s too much superficial worshipping of David Attenborough and not enough focus on what he is saying. He’s warning our lives are in danger! The future is not what most people think it is. We all have to peacefully rise up and protest and demand systemic global action
@LeoSpalteholz 100% this. People are creative. We can find solutions if no one is stopping us. Let the small businesses, developers, find a way to build more.
Otherwise this doesn’t change:
• supply < demand
@erikolofssoninc I struggle with this one. I bid to BC companies on every project, but for high performance windows European companies consistently deliver more quickly at a lower cost.
100 years ago, small towns across the US were building incredible structures like this.
Today, big cities can barely approve cheap one story buildings.
It's time we demand better from our built environment!
A Triplex Bill Is Fine, But not enough: @LeoSpalteholz I’d love to see similar analysis of Vancouver Island for the next 30 years. @CityOfVictoria Can we meet demand without clear cutting the rainforest to make room for urban sprawl? https://t.co/gns2ccLvGn
