Allah knows I gave every effort and all my strength to be a support and a voice for my people, ever since I opened my eyes to life in the alleys and streets of the Jabalia refugee camp. 🇮🇹 Genoa dockworkers block Saudi ship carrying arms bound for Israel

On Aug. 7, dockworkers in Genoa mounted a dawn blockade against the Saudi vessel Bahri Yanbu, refusing to load an Oto Melara cannon made by Italian arms giant Leonardo and other military cargo. The ship — arriving from Baltimore, Maryland — was already carrying weapons, ammunition, explosives, armored vehicles, and tanks, including shipments bound for Israel.

Around 40 workers boarded to inspect and document the shipment, declaring: “We don’t work for war.” The action, led by base unions USB and CALP with support from major federations, prompted the Port Authority to pledge talks on creating a “permanent observatory on arms trafficking.”

It follows a July action when Genoa dockers — tipped off by Greek port unions — blocked military-grade steel headed for Israel. Union leaders warned that handling such cargo makes workers complicit in war crimes and the Gaza genocide, vowing further mobilizations ahead of an international dockworkers’ assembly in September.
