US #Drought Monitor 5 23 19: Drought increased slightly from 2.4% to almost 2.6% across Lower 48 area, but only moderate drought (D1) was measured there for first time in USDM history. However, extreme drought (D3) in Alaska was also reported for the first time in USDM history.

This week���s change map for the US #DroughtMonitor shows that many #drought areas saw conditions improve by one category over the last week, particularly in the Southeast, South, southern CO, and northern NM. Western WA and the NC coast worsened by one category.
