1/x Happy to announce that my MS research has been published! We found that grass stage longleaf pine seedling can survive pretty intense fires and drought. The only seedlings that died were past predawn Y of -1.7MPa and fire intensity of 3.5MJ/m2! https://t.co/qXSFZ0enmG
@TomBuckleyLab @wmhammond My proposal was on tissue level changes related to stomata and VPD across taxa. I only listed "life sciences - ecology", but my proposal was ecology heavy as it was my prior experience was in that field. Mine somehow got funded but the project ended up a bit bunk.

@treephys Wow! That's awesome! Here in Georgia piedmont we're trying to convert some areas from lob to long leaf. It's tough to compete with those volunteers

How hot is too hot, and how dry is too dry, for Earth's forests? We asked decades of dying trees, and our analysis revealed a "hotter-drought fingerprint" for global forest mortality, out today in @NatureComms.

Using a fire lab with the USFS and a couple weeks of drought we tested the interaction of drought intensity and different fuel/energy release loads to figure out how tough grass stage seedlings really are.
I am defending my thesis on Friday at 1PM! Titled "Longleaf pine seedlings are extremely resilient to the combined effects of experimental drought and fire". Let me know if you'd like a zoom link!
@RaquelFeltrin@UGATreePhysLab Yeah itβs pretty awesome having a state of the art burn lab just one building over from our lab and plant growth chambers. Folks at @usfs_srs have been super helpful! Plus they got cool sensors! Come visit and burn stuff!
Trees in Western forests have been dying at an alarming rate due to droughts, high temperatures, pests and fires. Check out how the intersection of #drought and #fire could shape the future of forests there. #ugaresearch https://t.co/Q0zrYSFutS @TreePhysDJ@RaquelFeltrin
Ham fam is finally in Gainesville! Huge thank you to @LukeAWilsonOK for driving down from Athens to help us unload. Never imagined that in the first plant biology lab I ever TAβd (5 years ago) was sitting a future colleague and dear friend. Feels good to be home in Florida!
