Obviously a reckoning with what happened would be preferable, but that feels unrealistic. More achievable is what AOC is trying to do here, laugh at how crazy it was and move to talking about the economy.

Two things rarely mentioned about this viral Nolan interview:

1/ she actually studied in the U.S. (went to Groton for high school due to a love of ancient Greek and Latin) but

2/ runs one of the most popular & fast growing podcasts in China for young people, one focused on classical philosophy

So (due to the nature of her field of study) she studied in the West, but found popularity amongst young people in China

BTW I looked up her podcast, it’s #15 on the latest charts with 900K subscribers but the Nolan episode only had about 60K plays on the xiaoyuzhou podcasting platform (where most of her fans are). And she just released an episode talking about her interview going viral in the Anglosphere

Fascinating interview that demonstrates just how shallow Christopher Nolan is.

A Chinese interviewer confused by Nolan defiling his people's cultural inheritance asks him why he Christianised Homer's Odyssey, he says he hasn't really thought about it but Xenia sounded like the golden rule to him.

She asks him why Western filmmakers feel like they need to apologise for depicting greatness, he says we have to contextualise greatness now because we believe in equality and democratic values.

She asks him if the gods are real in his film and he says they seem real to people that believe in them.

It's actually incredible how little he seems to have thought about any of this. Every time he speaks it makes a mockery of every conservative cuck and midwit intellectual larper that acted like his film has some kind of esoteric message or is anything but the most trite Hollywood boomerslop.

It says a lot that the only person willing to question him on any of this was a Chinese podcaster.
