Students fled their classrooms after Thai forces used F-16 fighter jets to drop bombs in Srei Snam district, Siem Reap province, and Chong Kal district at depths of around 70 kilometers inside Cambodian territory.
The airstrikes occurred at approximately 10:08 am and 10:11 am today, December 15. The bombing caused panic among students, who ran from school buildings after hearing explosions.
I am deeply concerned by reports of armed clashes between Cambodian and Thai forces along their common border. I offer my condolences to the families of those who have been killed or injured. The renewed fighting risks unravelling the careful work that has gone into stabilising relations between the two neighbours.
Thailand and Cambodia are close partners of Malaysia and key members of ASEAN. We urge both sides to exercise maximum restraint, maintain open channels of communication and make full use of the mechanisms in place. Malaysia stands ready to support steps that can help restore calm and avert further incidents.
Our region cannot afford to see long-standing disputes slip into cycles of confrontation. The immediate priority is to halt the fighting, safeguard civilians, and return to a diplomatic path supported by international law and the neighbourly spirit on which ASEAN depends.

Samdech Hun Sen wrote on his official
Facebook page: In truth, I did not wish to speak about this issue. However, remaining silent may lead the Thai leadership to remain unaware, and the international community to misunderstand the situation. The Cambodia–Thailand border conflict has shifted from a war using weapons to one involving slingshots loaded with ball bearings and metal pellets.
At first glance, this may seem like a trivial or even humorous matter. But upon deeper examination, it is a serious issue.
If we do not intervene, it will escalate from slingshots to the use of all kinds of weapons, ultimately destroying the ceasefire agreement painstakingly reached by the Cambodian and Thai leaderships, with active mediation by the Prime Minister of Malaysia and participation from China and the United States.
As for Cambodia, if such actions are taking place, I urge the Royal Government to issue immediate orders to military forces to halt their use.
I also hope the Thai leadership will issue similar orders to their military to cease the use of weapons, as reflected in the attached images.
On July 31, 2025, CMAC’s EOD experts identified 9 new bombing sites, including 4 bomb craters and 5 unexploded bomb holes, all linked to recent bombardments (July 24-28) by the Thai Air Force using MK-84 bombs. See more: https://t.co/dXTMigkQDO
Shown in this picture by the Cambodian Mine Action Center (CMAC) is a Thai MK-84 bomb that was dropped during the border clashes.
It weighs nearly one ton, measures around 3.5 meters, and contains more than 500 kg of explosive.
Heng Ratana, director-general of CMAC, said on July 30 that MK-84 is the largest variant in its family that includes MK-81, MK-82, and MK-83. This MK-84 variant was rarely dropped during the Indochina War.

On the morning of July 27, 2025, invading Thai forces continued their deliberate assault on the sacred Preah Vihear Temple, a UNESCO World Heritage Site that the international community has a duty to safeguard.
Sacred temples, pagodas, schools, UNESCO World Heritage Site, have been bombed by US-made F-16 jets. Reminding me of Nixon’s Operation Menu of bombing campaign in🇰🇭. Mr President @POTUS pls act urgently to enforce your ceasefire call before more innocent lives & heritage are lost
Up to now, Thai soldiers continue to aggressively encroach on Cambodian territory, despite phone conversations between the leaders of both countries with US President Donald Trump.
