A few highlights from Tim Poole’s brief recap of the project.
We represented the regen crop data. Checked out the slide about the Hornked Larks on our farm! @MBForages
The native prairie ecosystem such as grasslands, rangelands & pastures provide us with an abundance
of ecological goods and services such as filtering sediment & pollutants before they reach our freshwater sources, increasing water filtration, preventing soil erosion, and more!
representing grain and having rich species abundance and diversity, really shows the benefits of our practices that focus on soil and ecosystem health!
It was our second year participating in the survey and I absolutely can’t wait for the full report!
Chestnut-collared longspurs are one of the first grassland birds to return in the spring. They start arriving in #AB in April with males typically arriving a couple weeks ahead of females so they can establish breeding territories and announce their presence to arriving females.
#NationalBirdDay is a day to appreciate birds and acknowledge the threats they face. In the prairies, their main threat is the loss of our native grasslands, which support an incredible diversity of birds. Pictured: ferruginous hawk, chestnut-collared longspur, long-billed curlew
During the cold winter months, sharp-tailed grouse seek shelter in trees and shrubs. Treed and shrubby areas provide thermal protection, as well as food for the grouse, who feed on buds and berries throughout the winter.

At #CanolaWeek2023, @gabertccc shared the list of current canola pest threats on the Prairies. “Some you could see in any field, any year. Some are once in a career.”

75% of AB's species at risk live in the grasslands. Temperate grasslands are one of the most imperiled ecosystems in the world and grazing is an integral part of the grassland ecosystem. Ranchers are key to preserving what grassland habitat we have left. #WildlifeConservationDay
Although they're shorebirds, upland sandpipers are more at home in upland areas of Alberta's native grasslands where they breed, nest, and feed on invertebrates throughout the summer months. Upland sandpipers are Sensitive in Alberta.
#DYK who are pollinators? 🐝
Pollinators are an important part of the ecosystem, they move pollen within them or carry it from one flower to another. 🌱🌸

🧐 Did you know?
On Earth, there are 92 naturally occurring chemical elements, 18 are essential to plants and 15 of them are supplied by soils!
Soil health & fertility have a direct influence on the nutrient content of food crops 🌱

Soil is a living resource and is home to more than 25% of our planet's biodiversity. Yet, it is threatened by human activity.
