PhD candidate in organic chemistry at @Stanford. I design catalysts & use them to make nitrogen-containing molecules! I love chemistry, math, art, & creativity.
Merck Innovation Cup 2021 - What an amazing experience! The last week has been a rollercoaster ride but in the end, we did an incredible job as a team winning the runner-up prize!
Thanks to all the experts from @merck_de for helping us shape our innovative idea!
Congratulations to the winners of the Merck Innovation Cup 2021 - Team Drug Discovery Technologies for their amazing idea around molecular glues - well done: Debakshi Mullick, Elena DeVita, Martin Maier, Monika Witzenberger, Suyuan Chen and Eviatar Fields. Coach: Andrii Gorelik
Congratulations to the runner-up of the Merck Innovation Cup 2021 - Team Oncology for their new innovative target proposal. Alessandro Vasciaveo, Ana Koperniku, Jana Terenova, Kerry Betz, Lisa Maria Koch, Sahil Gupta, coach: Yelena Wainmann #innovationcup
Congratulations to our awesome undergraduate researcher Jules Brunello for graduating from Stanford with her degree in Molecular Biology! Jules was a BioX fellow and worked on catalyst development as part of #TeamMethods. Wishing you all the best going forward Jules! 💝🍾🎓
@Stanford Unleashing stresses is one thing but how about Stanford’s almost purposeful piling-on-of-the-stress, most recently with 24h parking enforcement unfairly targeting students working nights and weekends when Caltrain and Marguerite schedules make public transit impossible?
Of course they change parking enforcement but don’t provide alternatives or extend Marguerite shuttle hours. Some of us work nights and weekends! I also just broke my leg so what am I supposed to do, walk?? @Stanford you’re making it an awful place to try to work right now
Dear @Stanford,
As if your draconian parking enforcement during a pandemic wasn't bad enough, you actually had the audacity to change all of the parking signs with a label maker. Now we have to pay for parking on nights and weekends?!?
Love,
An even more disgruntled postdoc
If I wasn’t 4 years into my PhD and in love with my research and my lab group, I would either drop out or transfer from @Stanford. To anyone applying to grad schools: I do not recommend Stanford at this time. I wish I could but please for your own mental health, look elsewhere.
The vibe‘s getting pretty wild @Stanford. Restricted zones. Eviction threats. No outdoor recreation. High police presence requiring ID displayed at all times, w stops that are esp threatening to poc. Draconian #CampusCompact. Plz RT... We need help! #StanfordPoliceState
@roshangbhaskar So sorry Roshan!! Please stick with it but also listen to what your mental health needs. A year off is not a bad thing if you really need it (although I’d miss you :( morning shift is quiet enough haha)
This is my fear too. Giving a company access to weekly medical data from me & my fellow students, with unclear protections in place, that is owned and run by one of the biggest information-gathering and advertising companies in the world? What could go wrong??
@page_goddard @verilylifesci I don’t get why this isn’t a bigger deal. This is way more alarming to me than the compact. Mandatory weekly testing by Verily/Google under the threat of losing housing.
Stanford’s new compact is clearly motivated by liability concerns, not actual care for the health & wellbeing of students. With these extreme restrictions that threaten students & aren’t grounded in logic, @Stanford is making it clear exactly how much its students really matter.
This week we'd like to spotlight @darko_utk's work, developing a suite of dirhodium catalysts with tethered, axial thioether ligands, facilitating some neat cyclopropanations and Si-H insertions! Yay dirhodium catalysis!! #PaperOfTheFortnight#BlackInChem https://t.co/BbYJKKcMeL
We’re excited to launch a biweekly ~paper of the fortnight~ series to celebrate the work of scientists of color, queer & trans scientists worldwide! This week, check out @theballlab's neat method to access sulfonamides, sulfamides & sulfamates! https://t.co/CYV9umPa8x
Thanks to our excellent collaborators in the Du Bois lab! Congrats to Sophia and Sara on their development of an electrochemically driven CH oxidation https://t.co/KyYUiiGcav
Being productive while staying at home: I drew a version of our lab’s logo! If you want a molecule or logo in this style, dm me for details :) @du_bois_lab
For anyone who can’t visit Stanford but is interested in our program, please don’t hesitate to reach out to me, other Du Bois lab members, anyone at Stanford, or anyone in general at whatever grad program you’re interested in!
We had a lovely time talking chemistry with our first round of admitted students! We’re really sad that we can’t welcome rounds two and three in person. Feel free to reach out to any group members with questions, or just to chat! Our contact info is on https://t.co/Xg3Ntd0LfI
