Great profile of the independent organization we're building @_drivers_united. Rideshare workers can and will build their own union, without getting permission from the boss https://t.co/vhDhn0g1Xq
"We decided to use Solidarity Tech, the same platform used by Zohran Mamdani’s successful mayoral campaign in New York, because it was built for one purpose: organizing people... That focus on organizing defined everything that came after."

Wow, Uber said they will not actively lobby against the IDG-SEIU initiative in MA that creates a "union" without employment rights. If that doesn't tell you everything you need to know, I don't know what does.
In California, our drivers and UI system are owed over -$1billion. When will Lyft & Uber pay up on the Labor Commissioner & EDD’s claim? Also, where are our elected leaders outrage on this wage theft, UI fraud by corporations?
I am proud that the UAW International Union is calling for a ceasefire in Israel and Palestine. From opposing fascism in WWII to mobilizing against apartheid South Africa and the CONTRA war, the @UAW has consistently stood for justice across the globe..
the ideological work here is worth pointing out. It’s so casual and banal but it’s impressive how the deck gets stacked. Chicago doesn’t grapple with underinvestment, poverty, inequality, dispossession, or systemic racism. It always grapples with crime and insufficient austerity
“Instead of cowering to companies like Uber and Lyft, drivers must organize and fight as a union for full employment status and flexibility, rejecting the corporate line that these are mutually exclusive.” @jakeasslaundry
Very relevant right now in Mass:
“The gigification blitz will be emboldened by HB 2076, b/c companies around the world now see that some union leaders, for the right price, may be compelled to support the companies’ regressive demands on labor status.” https://t.co/wPd9UuPjxx
So the appellate court of CA just agreed that LyftUber can rewrite labor law through the proposition process to make it perfectly legal for them to give assign rides that cost us more in car maintenance alone than they pay us in fares and bonuses. /1 @_drivers_united
“It’s cruel, man,” Jordan said. “It’s almost like Uber sees their drivers like a piece of equipment or a gadget or something, and they can just flip a switch and turn you off.” @_drivers_united /1

After 7 years of struggle, Uber, Bolt drivers get a government-approved union in Nigeria, the first in Africa. A HUGE win for our affiliates in Nigeria! @maiwega @AUATWN

So sad to find out that long time fighter for justice, Uber driver, & RDU volunteer passed away: Richard Castro was an inspiration to talk to: he connected all the struggles for justice, incl. our fight as drivers. Rest in Power, brother. @_drivers_united https://t.co/U0u180PocB
tight that Starbucks, Amazon and Kroger continue to casually break labor law and get slapped with token citations that are the equivalent to a half a penny fine for the avg person while DC-area media has a week-long meltdown over not detaining enough poor people for fare evasion
We successfully demanded Lyft stop shared rides in February and followed it up with Cal/OSHA complaints. Last week Cal/OSHA cited UberLyft and for failing to respect the workplace safety rights owed to drivers.
Earlier this year, Rideshare Drivers United along with over 2,000 drivers petitioned to stop Lyft's shared rides. Lyft refused, so the drivers took our complaints to CalOSHA.
On August 1st, 2022 CalOSHA issued a Citation to both Uber and Lyft for the following violations:
“It’s been increasingly more difficult to earn money,” said another plaintiff, Ben Valdez, a driver in Los Angeles. “Enough is enough. There’s only so much a person can take.”

So proud of the 3 drivers and @_drivers_united members suing Uber and Lyft on antitrust grounds for price fixing and controlling their work, while misclassifying them as independent contractors.
