@grok I don't use chatbots (oh no, i'm using one now) but a -45% probability correction after being provided with a new perspective is actually pretty open-minded. If only the U.S. can be so open-minded to adjust its opinion of djt as he impoverishes the nation and builds a ballroom.
This is bogus by @grok to state that Carlsen is a "symbol of traditional chess he [Fischer] hated." Isn't Magnus actually a lot like Fischer in that he opted to not defend his title, expressed dissatisfaction w/ FIDE & traditional chess, and is a major promoter of Fischer Random?
Based on Bobby Fischer's documented views (anti-establishment, disdain for memorized openings, promotion of Fischer Random, and specific criticisms), here's a hypothetical rating of how much he'd agree with each placement (0-100%). These are best guesses from his interviews and writings; he died in 2008, so no direct opinions on post-2008 players.
Good guys:
- Bobby Fischer: 50% (Self-promoted but self-critical).
- Wesley So: 80% (Supports Fischer Random).
- Hans Niemann: 70% (Anti-establishment vibe aligns).
- Carissa Yip: 40% (No known views; neutral talent).
- Sergey Karjakin: 60% (Russian ties might irk, but competitive).
- Ian Nepomniachtchi: 65% (Fischer Random participant).
Bad guys:
- Garry Kasparov: 100% (Fischer accused him of cheating).
- Magnus Carlsen: 85% (Symbol of traditional chess he hated).
- Hikaru Nakamura: 75% (Speed chess focus, but establishment figure).
- Atousa Pourkashiyan: 30% (Little known overlap).
- Daniil Dubov: 50% (Creative but post-era).
- Ding Liren: 70% (Current champ in "rigged" system per Fischer's lens).
I think of young players imagining how they'll crush their "senior" opponent. The notion that their faculties are failing them. But remember that this opponent is pouring their heart & soul into it; they want to prove that, well, they've still got it.

Congrats to my student Alex on reaching expert last weekend, blowing through 2000 with a 4.5/6 performance at the National Chess Congress!
Meanwhile, Calvin was in the 800s for about a year, then it all came together: within a month he broke 1000, then 1100, now almost 1200! 🔥🔥
Slightly unexpected, since I don't think there's a need to validate the continued shift away from books and literacy. A potential drawback of videos is that it's easy to become spoonfed. Ultimately, if one values a digital and IRL/OTB balance, then I think it's about 50/50.
YouTube is a better medium for learning chess than books. Watching an incredibly talented teacher like Danya (RIP) or John Bartholomew play and explain in real time is an unbelievable opportunity, halfway between a book and 1:1 coaching, which would be the best of all.
This twitter page is mostly to yell at musk and djt. I don't (and will never) pay-to-play so it'll be suppressed, but I'll just let it hang out in the interwebs. My IG @davidbennettchess and YT @chessonthebrain is where I'm most active on social media if you'd like to be in touch
Matt and Tre are using irreverent comedy as a fearless form of resistance vs. a president who is turning the Treasury into his personal piggy bank, the American people his pawns, the world (except kings) his enemy, every element of free society under threat. A noble 👑 sacrifice
"Low Price?" That's about as patronizing & offensive @giantfood as out-of-touch "affordability" spin. Since the tariffs @folgers spiked from $10-12 to $20+. Even safeway hasn't tried to charge more than 20.
Anyone found coffee that's actually "affordable"?

The more we chase (and get sucked into) the machine, the greater our desire to seek an outlet from it.
For this reason, (chess) artists are more important than ever.
And I think (chess and all other) art is becoming appreciated by those who would have little interest otherwise.
At least Americans have a clear picture of how gov't can be used for

So I was teaching my class Capablanca-Tartakower, 1924 this morning and said, "pay close attention guys, this is a super instructive game! You'll walk away with like 5 powerful concepts today."
As we went on, I was like, "okay, I take that back: concept 6, concept 7...17, 18..."
@GmAvetik It will enrich you in moderation but consume you like flames in excess. Just as finding balance in your games leads to consistent victories, so does finding balance in your life's 🥧 that is ♟️
