“On Monday, I wrote my first check to the US District Court for the $800 dollar daily contempt fine.   The plaintiff is now asking the court to increase the fines to $5000 dollars a day, and bar third-party reimbursements for the fines.  This is designed to break a journalist — mentally, emotionally and financially.”

“It should also concern every journalist — and every American who values a free press — that vital First Amendment rights are being decided in a case where the courts have kept important evidence secret from the public by keeping documents under seal.”

“Serious journalists everywhere should demand the release of this sealed evidence so the public can fully understand what is truly at stake when courts impose fines and order reporters to reveal their sources.”
