North Indians don't name.their kids Subramanian just as south Indians don't name their kids Kanhaiya or Kishan. A person is called Unnikrishnan in Kerala and someone is called Kanha in UP. But they are both named after Krishna. Shiva is called Bholenath in the north and Annamalaiyar in TN but they refer to the same force. Local culture and linguistic influences lend different names in different regions. Our civilization settled these ideas without internet or Twitter

With less than 48 hours to go before NEET 2026, Rahul Gandhi chose to amplify panic among lakhs of students based on a claim that appears to have ignored the available facts.

The Nagpur-Abu Dhabi centre allocation issue was projected as yet another example of institutional failure. But according to NTA records, the Abu Dhabi examination city was selected through the candidate's own registered login, accessed by the same user multiple times. The city preference was changed, previewed more than once, and subsequently processed through the system. When an informal request was later received, NTA officials reportedly contacted the candidate's family and initiated corrective action.

This is precisely the problem with Rahul Gandhi's style of politics. The accusation comes first. The facts come later, if they come at all.

At a time when nearly 23 lakh students are preparing for one of the most important examinations of their lives, public figures have a responsibility to inform, reassure and verify. Instead, Rahul Gandhi once again chose creating doubt on institutions and outrage over accuracy.

Students are not political props. Their anxieties should not be weaponised for social media engagement or political messaging. Every unverified allegation made on the eve of a national examination has consequences. It creates uncertainty, undermines confidence and distracts aspirants from the task they have spent years preparing for.

Criticism of institutions is legitimate when backed by facts. It is the very base for democracy. But repeatedly attacking national institutions before establishing the truth only weakens public trust.

India's students deserve honesty, responsibility and solutions. They do not deserve to become collateral damage in a political campaign built on speculation and fear. And this goes for cockroaches too.
