ON THIS DATE, ONE YEAR AGO: The worst event on record in the Carolinas unfolded. Catastrophic flooding, debris flows, & wind damage from Helene caused significant loss of life & destruction. Helene is the deadliest tropical cyclone to hit the contiguous US since Katrina in 2005.
