Democrats out forth a bill, the official title: An Act promoting the civil rights and inclusion of American Muslims in the commonwealth. It is Senate Bill S.2134 / companion House Bill H.3351

It received a favorable committee report, was recommended “ought to pass,” and was referred to the Senate Ways and Means Committee

Supporters include CAIR-MA

Here is what the bill would do

- Serve as a resource and liaison between government and Muslim communities
- Promote research and act as a clearinghouse on issues affecting American Muslims
- Inform leaders in business, education, government, media, etc., about those issues
- Foster unity among Muslim organizations
- Identify and recommend qualified American Muslims for appointive positions at all levels of government, including boards and commissions.

- Advise executive and legislative bodies on the potential effect of proposed legislation on American Muslims
- Assess programs and practices in all state agencies as they affect American Muslims.
- Undertake activities so the state “realize[s] the full benefit of the skills, talents and cultural heritage of American Muslims.”
- Separately study and report on Islamophobia trends, evaluate existing anti-Islamophobia efforts, review hate-crime statutes for possible changes, and recommend strategies/legislation to combat Islamophobia

Swarnjit Singh was born in India. His family fled to America in 1984.

He arrived in the United States around 2007 as an international student, earned a master’s degree, opened businesses in Connecticut, and settled in Norwich. In 2025 he became the first Sikh mayor in New England.

Now that same mayor is using his office to shield people who are in the country illegally. In a public statement he declared that no one in Norwich should fear going to work or school because of their immigration status.

He boasted that the Norwich Police Department fully follows the Connecticut Trust Act and will not assist ICE. He even echoed Governor Lamont with the line “ICE, go home. You are not welcomed here.”

Taxpaying American citizens in Norwich are expected to fund the schools, the police, and the city services while their mayor prioritizes the comfort of illegal aliens over the enforcement of federal law.

A foreign-born man is now using his power and unconstitutional liberal "laws" to try and make sure federal agents cannot do their jobs in his city - despite the fact that federal law supersedes state law.

This is not compassion. This is a middle finger to every citizen who follows the rules.

The Illinois General Assembly passed the legislation, and Governor J.B. Pritzker signed it into law.

Beginning August 1, 2026, Chicago’s combined sales tax increased to 10.50%. The additional 0.25% is intended to help fund regional public transit, including the CTA, Metra, and Pace.

For years, taxpayers have contributed billions of dollars to public transit through fares, sales taxes, state funding, and federal funding. Yet many residents continue to ask where the measurable improvements are.

Earlier this year, a Cook County judge also ruled that approximately $243 million in transportation-related funds had been improperly diverted from their constitutionally dedicated purpose.

Taxpayers deserve transparency, accountability, and results..not just another tax increase.
