Today I hold a sovereign Lithuanian passport which ranks 11th globally for freedom and the access it grants thanks to the sacrifices made 30 years ago. This is a something entire generations of Lithuanians were denied for the most part of two centuries under smothering occupation
#OTD 30 y ago Lithuanian people defended their freedom. Unarmed they tried to stop Soviet tanks near #Vilnius TV tower. They showed distinct believe in freedom, knowing that it is not a gift. #Lithuania will remember forever heroes of #January13 1991.
Sure, GoogleMaps is cool but not half as cool as ORBIS. The Stanford Geospatial Network Model of the Roman World allows you to check travel times during Roman times. You can choose your mode of travel too! Source: https://t.co/zgVnhUdbKh
Some 20 years ago, the EU provided approximately 4 million euros to build a promenade on either side off the Narva river. Friendship of the peoples and all that.
The Estonians built a lovely parquet promenade that runs all along their side of the Narva. You can see a small part of it in the foreground.
The Russians simply stole their part of the EU grant. Nothing was ever built. And like the rest of what lies behind the river bank, it still looks like slum.
When Sweden and Denmark play a football match, the names of the countries are shortened and we have SWE-DEN.
What’s more interesting, the remaining letters are DEN-MARK.
Amazing story: the Czech government spent six years planning a series of dams.
A family of beavers constructed the dams for free, in 1-2 says, in the same locations that human picked, accomplishing the goals set by the Czech government and saving humans $1.2 million

France opened a flurry of nuclear power plants in the 1980s and 1990s, giving it low-carbon electricity ever since—
At the turn of the millennium, France had one of the lowest-carbon electricity grids in Europe (and the world).
While countries like the UK and Germany emitted well over 500 grams of CO₂ per kilowatt-hour of electricity, France emitted just 80 grams — six times less. This was mostly thanks to nuclear power.
In the 1980s and 1990s, France rapidly expanded its power grid, and almost all of this growth came from new nuclear plants. The chart shows this: in the 1980s alone, nuclear power grew from 60 to over 300 terawatt-hours.
By 2000, nuclear power supplied almost 80% of the country’s electricity, making it much cleaner than its neighbors, mostly relying on coal and gas.
France still has one of the cleanest grids in Europe, although it has added very little nuclear power in the 21st century. It has opened just one plant in the last 25 years, in Flamanville, following long delays and cost overruns.
In the last decade, solar and wind power have grown the most.

American magazine Harper’s publishes “Who Goes Nazi?” by Dorothy Thompson, asking who would collaborate in a Fascist takeover of the USA. “It’s an amusing game. Try it at the next big party you go to."

🇱🇹 Lithuania stands proud and free — firmly committed to defending its people and values.
Last month 🇱🇹 generated 80% of it‘s used ⚡️from renewables, mostly wind and solar. With a new windmill park on the Baltic coast to be developed, we‘re on track to be fully 100% green powered by 2030.
Energy prices now are the lowest it‘s been 5 years and it‘s extra funny
