Manipur : CONDEMNATION
Henglep, 17th June 2026
Letzamang Haokip
Manipur Legislative Assembly
57-Henglep (ST) Assembly Constituency
I strongly and unequivocally condemn the shocking killing of Lenminsang, S/o Lenkhogin Haokip, at the hands of joint security forces at North Songkong village, Henglep Sub-Division.
It is deeply disturbing and unacceptable that a civilian has lost his life at the hands of those entrusted with his protection. Such an incident strikes at the very foundation of public trust and raises serious concerns that cannot be ignored.
Adding to the gravity of the incident, eyewitnesses have alleged that, after he was shot, his clothes were removed and his lifeless body was taken away by the joint security forces. They further allege that, after his death, attempts were made to portray the incident as fake encounter. If these allegations are found to be true, it would constitute a grave abuse of authority and a serious violation of the rule of law. This is unacceptable and demands immediate attention. These allegations are extremely serious and warrant an immediate, impartial and transparent investigation.
The continued failure to return and retrieve the mortal remains of the deceased civilian has only compounded the pain and anguish of the bereaved family and the public. Every family has the right to perform the last rites of their loved one with dignity and respect.
I demand the immediate recovery and handover of the mortal remains to the family, a thorough judicial and independent inquiry into the incident, and stringent action against all those found responsible. Any attempt to conceal facts, tamper with evidence, or misrepresent the circumstances surrounding the death must be investigated and dealt with strictly in accordance with the law.
I extend my heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family and stand firmly with them in their pursuit of truth and justice.

IMPHAL, June 16, 2026 โ The Regional Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS), Imphal, reportedly suspended further treatment for three injured Kuki civilians, following a reported mob threat.
The three patients were admitted with injuries sustained in an incident allegedly attributed to an attack by NSCN-IM based in Konsakhul Area. Minutes after RIMS issued a statement on medical ethics and its duty to treat all patients โirrespective of background,โ the Director and staff โunanimously agreed not to continue further treatmentโ for the three Kuki civilians pending their transfer from RIMS.
The decision reportedly followed a message circulated to โMeiteis and Manipur Nagas in Imphalโ urging them to โmobilize en masse at RIMS Hospital to kill all the Kuki patients.โ It further claims that โthousands of Meitei and Manipur Naga mobs stormed the premises of RIMS Hospital in an attempt to lynch the three Kuki civilians.โ
RIMS is a National Institute under the Ministry of Health & Family Welfare, with the Union Health Minister as the President of the Board of Governors and the Manipur Chief Minister as Vice President. The motto of RIMS is โIn the Service of Humanity,โ and it states that the institution โis not the exclusive property of any one community.โ
There are appeals to the Government of India to โimmediately establish a similar premier medical facility equivalent to RIMS or AIIMS in every Kuki-dominated districtโ if the safety of Kuki patients cannot be guaranteed at RIMS Imphal.
โEvery citizen must be able to access healthcare without the fear of mob lynching.โ

NEW DELHI, June 16, 2026 โ The Committee on Protection of Tribal Areas Manipur-Kuki Hills (COPTAM-KH) issued a press statement calling for a Union Territory with Legislature for Kuki-inhabited Hill Areas of Manipur, saying it is a "constitutional and democratic necessity".
In the statement dated June 16, COPTAM-KH said the Kuki people have faced "a century of territorial dispossession, repeated displacement, constitutional marginalization, and recurring violence" since the Anglo-Kuki War of 1917-1919. The organization cited events including village destruction in 1992-1993 and the ongoing situation since May 3, 2023, which it said has led to loss of lives, destruction of homes, churches, schools, and large-scale displacement.
COPTAM-KH stated that existing arrangements under Article 371C, Hill Areas Committee, Autonomous District Councils, and Village Authorities have seen "continued erosion of tribal autonomy" due to overlapping jurisdictions and weakening of safeguards for Hill Areas of Manipur.
The committee said a Union Territory with Legislature is not a call for secession, but a demand for a "durable constitutional arrangement within the Union of India" to guarantee: protection of indigenous land rights, preservation of customary laws and institutions, democratic self-governance, accountable administration, security from ethnic violence, restoration of rule of law, and rehabilitation for displaced communities.
"We therefore call upon the Government of India, the Parliament of India, constitutional authorities, civil society organizations, and the international community to recognize the urgency of the situation and support the establishment of a Union Territory with Legislature for the Kuki people," the statement read.
COPTAM-KH concluded: "Justice delayed is peace denied. Constitutional protection is not a privilege - it is a right."

The Government of India, through the Ministry of Home Affairs, has officially referred to NSCN-IM as a "terrorist gang" in its order directing the NIA to investigate the Thawai Kuki incident where Thangboimang Lunkim and Thenkhogin Baite were brutally murdered.
This official recognition reinforces what the Kuki people have consistently maintained that behind the recent attacks, killings, and acts of aggression against the Kuki community,NSCN-IM remains a principal perpetrator and driving force of terror.
For far too long, attempts have been made to obscure the identity of those responsible for violence against innocent Kuki civilians. The MHA's reference serves as a significant acknowledgment of the threat posed by NSCN-IM and underscores the need for accountability, justice, and an impartial investigation into all acts of violence committed against the Kuki people.
Facts matter.Truth matters. And justice must prevail.

@rlungleng Tangkhul kid goes around spreading disinfo. Be alert, he disguises himself as political commentator, etc. to fool Nagas of Nagaland. Heโs accusing armed forces so that they side with Tangkhuls which they already do. Several villages burned down by NSCN-IM in @crpfindia presence.
Staged encounter by security forces raises serious concerns, with the victim allegedly stripped & dressed in different clothing to falsely portray him as a militant. The Kuki community will not tolerate such abuse of authority, manipulation of evidence, and gross misuse of power.
Disturbing reports from Henglep Sub-Division, CRPF (Cobra) opened fire and used explosives against village volunteers on guard duty near Songkong village, Dated: 16-06-2026, resulting in the death of Mr Lenminsang of Kolchung village. Reports further claim that his body was taken away, raising serious concerns about an attempted cover up and the possibility of a fake encounter narrative. These allegations cannot be ignored. A transparent, independent investigation must be conducted immediately, and anyone found responsible must be held accountable. Justice for Lenminsang!!

Manipur : PRESS STATEMENT
16th June, 2026
The Kuki Studentsโ Organization (KSO), Churachandpur, expresses serious concern over the reported attack by CRPF (COBRA) forces on Kuki Village Volunteers at Songkong Village under Henglep Sub-Division today. Such an incident is deeply unfortunate and raises grave concerns, particularly at a time when Kuki Village Volunteers are engaged in safeguarding their villages & communities from repeated threats and attacks amid the ongoing conflict.
The Kuki Village Volunteers have emerged as a community-based defensive force
necessitated by the prevailing security situation and the continued vulnerability of Kuki villages. Any action targeting those who are protecting civilian populations risks further aggravating tensions, eroding public trust, and undermining efforts toward peace, security, and stability.
KSO Churachandpur urges the concerned authorities to immediately establish the
facts surrounding the incident, ensure accountability where warranted & take all
necessary measures to prevent the recurrence of such incidents.
We also call upon all security agencies to exercise the highest degree of restraint,
professionalism, and sensitivity while operating in conflict-affected areas, with due regard for the safety and security of innocent civilians.
At this critical juncture, actions that deepen mistrust or contribute to the escalation of hostilities must be avoided. Sustainable peace can only be achieved through dialogue, mutual respect, justice and the protection of all communities.
