Breaking good news: The Gold Helmet of Coțofenești — a key historical artifact for the people of #Romania, stolen in 2025 from the Drents Museum — has just been recovered in the #Netherlands, together with two of its three Dacian Gold Bracelets.

The helmet and the bracelets had been featured since September 2025  in the @UNESCO Virtual Museum of Stolen Cultural Objects to raise awareness about the illicit trafficking of cultural property. With its return to the people of Romania, the Virtual Museum is losing its first objects and hoping more will follow soon. The search for the third bracelet is still ongoing.

#UNESCO Virtual Museum of Stolen Objects was created as the only global museum in the world whose ambition is to be empty. We hope one day its collections will be returned to their rightful owners.

Most of Alexander's letters were lost but not all of them. One of them is Alexander the Great's letter to the Chians (people of the Greek island Chios) because it was inscribed on a stone stele in Chios, a common practice in ancient Greece for preserving important public decrees. The letter writes:

"In prytany of Deisitheus, from king Alexander to the demos of the Chians.

1. All those exiled from Chios are to return,note and the constitution on Chios is to be democratic.

2. Drafters of legislation are to be selected to write and emend the laws so as to ensure that there be no impediment to a democratic constitution and the return of the exiles. Anything already emended or drafted is to be referred to Alexander.

3. The people of Chios are to supply twenty triremes, with crews, at their own expense, and these are to sail for as long as the rest of the Greek naval force accompanies us at sea.

4. With respect to those men who betrayed the city to the barbarians (Persians), all those who escaped are to be exiled from all the cities that share the peace [of Corinth], and to be liable to seizure under the decree of the Greeks. Those who have been caught are to be brought back and tried in the Council of the Greeks. In the event of disagreement between those who have returned and those in the city, in that matter they are to be judged by us.

5. Until a reconciliation is reached among the people of Chios, they are to have in their midst a garrison of appropriate strength installed by king Alexander. The people of Chios are to maintain the garrison."

Alexander invaded Asia in 334 BC as leader (hegemon) of the Corinthian League, the alliance of all Greek cities, to fight against the Persian Empire (Achaemenid Empire). One of the articles of the Corinthian treaty stated that the Greek towns were to remain autonomous, and that their constitutions were to remain unchanged.
