When are tech folk going to get that people like wasting time, it's life. They don't optimize for efficiency, they try to get by, they watch dumb stuff, they enjoy shopping. Inefficiency is another work for living and life.

Your m mean and median job isn't a software engineer in Menlo Park, it's Ashley in accounts in a not for profit in Columbus, it's Jesse , the office manager for a tool rental business in Tallahassee, they are more likely to use a Fax machine than Slack.

They quite like meetings because they like chatting, they'll use AI to make a better invite to their baby shower, not agentify their job.

These people, nor their bosses boss, aren't in a rush to build software as a side hustle, they are keen to use AI to check if their vet is overcharging them. They'd like AI to check spelling on the email to the school governor.

They don't want agentic commerce, they want AI to be in the background and make living a little less stressful

Couldn’t architect a Restful API interface for a human, yet writing an MCP interface would suddenly spell success?

APIs for *everyone* will work for AI, they are modelled after us after all.

Keep building for people, not robots.

It's all dumb abstractions that AI doesn't need because AI's are as smart as humans so they can just use what was already there which is APIs

Idea + Vision + Conviction to the idea, a truly good idea. The "someone" is ravenous. They understand the idea so well, that everything else falls into place. "I want to build an RTS that surprises like FTL did, but it's snow piercer trains with vampires"

Having a good idea is 99% of game dev. If someone asks you to make a game and split 50-50 because they have the ideas, you should take the deal.

Andy Hollis, a lead designer at MicroProse (and later other studios) told me that one day his wife showed him pictures of his daughters age 3-5. He couldn’t remember seeing them at that age, because he spent all his time on F-15 Strike Eagle and other projects. Got home too late to see them.

When he realized this, he never again stayed excessively late. The company suits would get mad. He just said “Not losing any more of their childhood.” And went home.

But that's not really want I wanted to see, I wanted to see the trains against the rail network schematic map. So I pulled together a debug view, that represents percentage complete, then I used that information to track the trains against the schematic map.

Inspired by this post, I decided to see if I could visualise the Victorian metro rail network. They provide awesome realtime GPRS data, so it's relatively straightforward to map the co-ords to a pitched map and get a pretty cool effect.

@devagrawal09 It doesn't help that he now has a marketable fanbase, so whatever he makes will have a decent user base from day dot.

Not taking away from his achievements, he's great & I'm actually a fan, but his success has *almost* nothing to do with PHP.

@thekitze If you rely on non-stick pans, buy and learn how to use a stainless. Teaches you a lot, especially about burning oils, and working with butter.
