Final thoughts on the Ole Miss loss at Texas....
· The player of the game wasn't a player at all. It was Texas defensive coordinator Will Muschamp. His complete masterclass in the first half sealed the game.
· Trinidad Chambliss actually played much better than he or others felt he did, in my opinion. Many times, he had nowhere to throw the ball. The Texas defensive backs were covering up every receiver. Even the completions were tight.
· Please burn the playbook with the "direct snap" as the play call. The first half play calling was hard to watch but to be fair, the defense was making it very hard on Ole Miss.
· Kewan Lacy gave everything he had. From hamstring issues to shoulder issues, he should be applauded for attempting to go.
· When the game was 24-3, it was headed for a blowout to me. I commend the Rebels for clawing back. With both fake punts and recovering an onside kick, they didn't quit, took Texas' best punch and had a chance.
· I have no doubt Pete Golding will evaluate the decision sequence late in the game, attempting the 58-yard field goal. All of it is overshadowed by the timeout usage. That would prove pivotal late in the game not being able to stop the clock.
· The Ole Miss defense was simply gassed by the end of the game. Brown was terrific for Texas and Ole Miss resorted to its earlier self akin to the Louisville game, missing tackles. There were some bright spots tonight defensively at times, especially in the third quarter.
· Ole Miss turned Texas over three times and the only points scored off of those were the defense scoring on the fumble, scoop and score. The offense didn't do anything with the two interceptions. In fact, Chambliss gave it right back on the next play of the first Ole Miss interception from Manning.
· The Rebels are really beat up. LT Terez Davis was missed badly tonight. As good at the Texas defensive backfield was, especially in the first half, the defensive line had Chambliss on the run.
· The third quarter, oddly enough, saw the Rebels rebound, thanks to a sack, fumble and a scoop and score. The defense was just on the field too long tonight in the end.
· There were plenty of frustrating moments but while it's a loss, the Rebels fought back and didn't quit. While there may not be many positives tonight, to me that is the leader of them all.
· Ole Miss needs to win out to make the CFP. That includes home wins over Georgia and a road win over Oklahoma. None of that matters if they don't regroup and get healthy fast for Auburn next week for an early kick in Oxford.
· The SEC is a meat grinder this season. Everyone is taking turns beating up on one another. Who is still standing in the end? There is no more margin for error for Ole Miss. The Rebels have gut check on Saturday.
I think this says a lot about where this Ole Miss program is and how good this staff is.
The national media thought the former coach leaving would change everything, but instead it’s shown how strong this place is from top to bottom.
Ole Miss is the place to be.
Did anyone clearly understand how that Saints defensive touchdown was just ruled a forward pass?
For the life of me, I cannot figure out how that’s even a possibility
Watched the balk a few times. Technically a balk but not called multiple times that inning on pitch comm issues. Balk emphasis has been on out of ordinary moves which is why Ole Miss LHP not called for balks. They're consistent. This was umpire insertion for little reason.
