In Capitol Hill today, high school marching band students from Nebraska had an impromptu go-go lesson from the Too Much Talent Band. It was a joyful moment of unity and community.

An hour before, in that exact same spot, stood masked members of the Patriot Front.

It's something many D.C. residents have felt in the lead up to America's 250th — the tension between the people who live here and what some want this city to symbolize. I wrote about it here:

@mattyglesias It’s fine, just started doing it. What’s dumb is that DC forbids running a level 2 across the sidewalk, so you can only use level 1 and are limited to plug in hybrids instead of full EVs

Before this she gave a straightforward pitch about how the Supreme Court opening was an example of why it’s important people turn out to vote. Actually trying at basic politics!
