イスラエルとソマリランド、近日中に貿易協定を結ぶとのこと、ロイターより。
「承認ドミノ」が起きない現実を踏まえ、双方が選んだのは「資源と協定」による結束強化。 退路を断ち、実利で結ばれた「運命共同体」へと深化する道を選んだようです。

（※まだ“公式発表”というより噂ベースっぽいですが）「ソマリランドが国名を変えるかも？—候補は Macrobia」という話、もし本当に動くなら、個人的には“アリ寄りのアリ”です。Somali〜が両方に掛かってしまう混同は、外から見ていても地味に不便ですしね。

そして Macrobia（マクロビア）は、ただのカッコいい造語ではなく、古代ギリシャ語で「長寿の民」のニュアンス。ヘロドトスが“世界の果ての賢い国”として語った、あの半ば神話めいた地名です。
ペルシアの使節が探りを入れると、王は魂胆を見抜き、巨大な弓を渡して「これを引けるなら来い」と静かに返す。さらに「太陽の食卓」なる不思議な饗宴の話まで添える——この手の伝承って、残酷な戦争譚とは逆方向の、人間の想像力の美しさが残っています。

で、ここからが本題。
名前がどうあれ、あの場所は“紅海の出口に近い”という一点だけで、古代から現代までずっと「人とモノの通り道」に巻き込まれ続ける宿命があります。
だからこそ私は次の投稿で、「ソマリランドがなぜ要衝か？」を、港（ベルベラ等）と海上交通の現実から、なるべく地に足つけて整理します。
まずは——血なまぐさい現代戦の手前で、古く美しい Macrobia に一礼。
