"I could have been Lindsay Clancy."
I spoke with a woman who had postpartum psychosis.
It's a very emotional and difficult conversation.

They already tried this in the '70s, and it was repealed right after the first winter bc kids got killed on their commute to school bc it'll end up being fucking dark until like 10 in the morning
No thank you
It’s comical how no one understands that we already did this in 1974. It ended up being SUCH a bad idea that it only lasted 10 months before it was quickly changed back.
Everyone agrees the twice-a-year clock change is ridiculous.
But if we’re making one time permanent, why choose the one that most sleep and circadian experts don’t recommend?
Permanent standard time aligns better with our biology because morning sunlight is what sets our internal clocks. Permanent Daylight Saving Time means darker winter mornings, later body clocks, and more circadian disruption. This would be another disaster for American health. It’s probably too late to stop this but switch this to permanent Standard time instead!!!!
Permanent Daylight Saving Time isn’t “more daylight.” That’s the sales pitch. The reality is you’re just stealing daylight from the morning and moving it to the evening.
In June, it feels great. In January, it’s a different story.
Kids wait for school buses in darkness. Millions drive to work before sunrise. Our bodies rely on morning sunlight to regulate circadian rhythms the internal clock that helps control sleep, alertness, hormones, and overall health. Delaying sunrise by another hour in winter works against that natural rhythm. I guess y’all forgot that some people work outside all year long.
We’ve already tried this. In 1974, the U.S. switched to year-round Daylight Saving Time during the energy crisis. Public support collapsed after dark winter mornings, especially with children heading to school before sunrise. Within months, Congress reversed course.
You don’t create a single extra minute of daylight. You just move it from one end of the day to the other.
Winter doesn’t disappear because Congress changes the clock.
We still have winter.
Congress did this exact same thing in 1974! They passed permanent Daylight Saving Time during the energy crisis, and within three months, people hated it so much because their kids were walking to school in the dark that Congress had to do an emergency repeal and switch it right back!
But nobody in Washington reads a damn history book! They just see a poll that says 'people don't like changing their clocks' and instead of doing the logical, biological thing which is keeping permanent STANDARD TIME, they pick the fake, corporate, late-afternoon-shopping option instead.
They ignore actual sleep scientists, they ignore the American Academy of Sleep Medicine, and they ignore basic astronomical reality just so they can brag on social media about giving you a 'longer, brighter day'! It is total, complete, anti-science corporate madness. 🤡
The guy in front of me at REI asked if the tent came in living room size.
Employee: For camping?
Guy: For a dog.
Employee: (pause) A camping dog?
Guy: An emotionally complicated dog.
I was there buying wool socks and immediately stopped pretending not to listen.
The employee pulled down two boxes and started giving him the usual pitch about weather resistance and pack weight.
Guy: I don't care if it survives a mountain. I care if it survives my apartment during thunderstorms.
That got my attention.
He was maybe early forties, still in work clothes, holding a chewed-up leash like evidence.
Guy: I adopted this dog in March. Sweetest animal I've ever met until it rains. Then he tries to crawl under the bathtub.
Employee: Have you tried a crate?
Guy: He bent the crate door.
Me: Big dog?
Guy: Eighty pounds of panic.
He showed us a picture. Huge black mutt with one ear up and one ear doing whatever it wanted.
Me: Yeah, that's not fitting under a chair fort.
Guy: I made him three of those. He destroyed two and cried in the third.
Employee: Vet say anything?
Guy: Build him a den. Small enclosed space. Sit with him. Make it feel normal.
He looked around the store.
Guy: So now I'm here, apparently buying my dog a nicer shelter than I've ever owned.
We ended up helping him pick a pop-up tent because the employee said if thunder started, he didn't want to be fighting poles and instructions while a dog was having an existential crisis.
Guy: Important question. Can a grown man fit in there with one unreasonable dog?
Employee: If you like each other, yes.
Guy: He likes me. I don't know if he respects me.
At checkout the cashier asked if he needed stakes.
Guy: Unless my living room gets windy, I think we're good.
I went back a week later because I forgot the socks.
Same employee saw me and grinned.
Employee: Tent dog guy came back.
Me: No way.
Employee: Brought a picture.
He showed me his phone.
The dog was dead asleep inside the tent on a pile of couch cushions, stretched out like he paid rent. The guy was half in, half out, folded at the waist with a paperback in one hand.
Employee: He said the storm lasted two hours. Dog didn't shake once.
Me: What about him?
Employee: He said his back may never recover but it was the best night's sleep the dog had since he brought him home.
Honestly, fair trade.
Jury duty letter came addressed to my cat.
Not a mistake. "Felix Martinez" - that's his full name according to his vet records.
My last name. His first name. Somehow he's a registered voter now.
Called the county clerk.
Me: My cat got summoned for jury duty.
Clerk: Is the name correct on the summons?
Me: Yes, but he's a cat.
Clerk: Is Felix Martinez a legal resident of this county?
Me: He's a legal cat.
Clerk: Sir, if the name matches our records, he needs to appear or file an exemption.
Me: He can't file anything. He has paws.
Clerk: You can file on his behalf.
Me: Under what exemption? There's no box for "is a cat."
Clerk: (pause) Check "unable to serve due to medical reasons."
Me: What's the medical reason?
Clerk: He's a cat.
Me: That's not a medical condition.
Clerk: It is if it prevents him from serving.
Sent in the form. Got rejected two weeks later.
"Insufficient documentation. Please provide medical professional's statement."
Took the letter to my vet.
Me: I need you to write that my cat can't do jury duty.
Vet: Why is your cat summoned for jury duty?
Me: Excellent question. No good answer.
Vet: This is the weirdest request I've gotten.
Me: Can you just write that he's medically unfit to serve?
Vet: On what grounds?
Me: He's a cat.
Vet: (started typing) "Patient is unable to serve due to species-related limitations including inability to speak, read, or comprehend legal proceedings."
Me: Perfect.
Sent it in. Got another rejection.
"Summons is mandatory. Failure to appear will result in contempt of court."
My roommate thought this was hilarious.
Roommate: Felix is going to jail.
Me: This is serious.
Roommate: Bring him to court. See what happens.
Decided that was actually the only option left.
Day of jury duty, put Felix in his carrier. Brought the entire paper trail of rejection letters.
Checked in at the courthouse.
Clerk: Name?
Me: Felix Martinez.
Clerk: (looked at the cat carrier) Is that Felix?
Me: Yes.
Clerk: (long stare) He's a cat.
Me: I've been saying that for six weeks.
Clerk: Why didn't you file an exemption?
Me: I filed three. All rejected.
Showed her the letters. She read through them, expression shifting from confusion to disbelief.
Clerk: Someone rejected the veterinary documentation?
Me: Twice.
Clerk: (called her supervisor over) You need to see this.
Supervisor read everything. Looked at Felix. Looked at me.
Supervisor: How did a cat get registered to vote?
Me: You tell me.
Supervisor: This is a data error.
Me: Took you six weeks to figure that out.
They dismissed Felix immediately. Apologized for the inconvenience.
Supervisor: We'll remove him from the voter registry.
Me: Appreciate it.
Supervisor: (pause) Out of curiosity, how would he have voted?
Me: Probably whatever party supports universal treats.
Got a formal apology letter a week later and a voter registration card.
For me this time. Apparently I wasn't registered, but my cat was.
Roommate: Felix committed voter fraud.
Me: Felix committed nothing. He's innocent.
Roommate: That's what they all say.
Felix is sleeping on the jury summons now.
Fitting end to his legal career.

Just found out James passed away from a heart attack while cutting his grass.
James helped solve the Casey White manhunt in Indiana.
He noticed an abandoned car at his car wash.
James was a great guy.

He was celebrating a win on the baseball field… smiling, healthy, full of life.
Hours later, he was gone.
Maddox Graser was a sophomore at Wooster High School. A dedicated athlete. A teammate who had just helped his team secure a big victory.
Nothing seemed wrong. No warning.
Then, later that same evening, Maddox suddenly became severely ill at home.
What started as sickness escalated fast. He was rushed to the hospital, then life-flighted to Akron Children’s in Ohio as his condition worsened.
In a matter of hours, everything changed.
His family went from cheering him on, to standing beside him in the Pediatric ICU, praying for a miracle.
Now, they are mourning a loss no one saw coming.
The school describes Maddox as “an outstanding student, athlete, and friend”… someone deeply loved by his classmates and teammates.
There are still no clear answers. Just shock and heartbreak.
We’ve been asked to please lift Maddox’s family up.
Pray for his parents, who are trying to make sense of how a normal day turned into this.
Pray for his teammates and friends, who were just celebrating with him.
He was only 17.
RIP.
