Every day, 800 women die globally from preventable causes related to pregnancy and childbirth — 70% of them in Africa. Most of these deaths can be prevented with timely, quality care.

Preventable maternal deaths are a global injustice. We must act urgently.

Exciting times! Dr @muhammadpate made history yesterday when the @Gavi Board confirmed him to succeed our current CEO, @GaviSeth, in August. Muhammad will be the first CEO from a Gavi implementing country and the first person of colour to hold the position.
