@johnredwood Happy to be corrected, but my understanding is we don't have any foreign currency liabilities so an IMF bailout won't be required. However, GBP will take the strain as always
@Frances_Coppola@AEcho1016@worstall 10% of motability cars have adaptions, so I would guess 15% of claimants have serious needs.
The overall point is that people who can work should not have an option of being supported by the state all their life.
@Frances_Coppola@AEcho1016@worstall Somehow we need to shift the benefits system from providing a comfortable life for those in charge of their own destiny, to helping those that are reaching the final destination.
It's not right that tax payers should have to support people through their entire life.
@AlexBurke1 Can't believe he was ever on a particularly big wage, but must be a serious blow. I always thought he was one of the better players in the team!
@ryanwp5661@samuel_leeds@DanNeidle Good luck getting US, India, China, UAE to all agree at the same time.
There's a reason people don't invest in the UK - they are nervous that socialists will slow economic growth and weaken the pound. Investors don't make political statements, they assess risk.
@DrRebeccaTidy@klaaanh Because BTL is such a bad investment, supply of housing will increase slower than it should, and rents will stay higher for longer.
Ultimately investors go where their capital is most welcome - sadly this is not the UK, hence our steady decline relative to other countries.
@DrRebeccaTidy@klaaanh No offence Rebecca, but these posts show very little understanding of finance. The BTL returns were okay, but he could have generated a higher income and larger capital gains from other avenues, from Day 1. Instead, he's paid a ton of tax and done a lot of tedious work for it.
@Greenbackd If an indicator shows that the stock market has traded above 'fair value' in almost all periods since 1990, then it's back to the drawing board.
