@ItIsHoeMath "Arbitrary power is to the mind what alcohol is to the body; it intoxicates."
It is important for us all to see in ourselves, just as much as we can see in others, that we are all human and fallible. A question arises after accepting that: where do we go from there?
@stagecrasher@RAISRAEL2 There cannot be a production of unlimited goods with limited resources. Our most complex creations consist of the rarest of minerals. The idea you propose can be satisfied through psychological manipulation. However, this doesn't make it true.
To all the women who are told to believe that putting off having children will have no effects other than time. The following ratios represent the approximate likelihood of Down syndrome at the time of delivery:
Age 20: 1 in 2,000
• Age 25: 1 in 1,250
• Age 30: 1 in 1,000
Age 35: 1 in 350 to 1 in 400
• Age 40: 1 in 100
• Age 45: 1 in 30
• Age 49: 1 in 10

@steffen_dybvik@TheNotoriousMMA We are three-dimensional beings. When we look at the micro or macro scale, it extends forever — much like our place in infinite time. We can see down to a single atom, but that’s not the limit. To assume there is no larger intelligence is beyond asinine.
@0nlyk1tt3n Normally a horse will face its hind legs to something it find threatening so I can kick it. This horse is backing up, not taking its eye off of it while thinking, "f*** that!"
That is incorrect. I am a Gen X'er and we were raised by the television. There were no oppressed or victimized GI Joe's because of the racer color. We had the Care bears we had Saturday morning cartoons that never displayed any radial prejudice. Even that followed what we were taught in school which was to judge a person by the character and not by the color of the skin. These are the teachings of Martin Luther King Jr. They're definitely was racism and a generation before us and before that. But we, that of Gen X never had that issue. It is those that followed that brought it back. The original poster is correct. But you can't have a Marxist revolution if you don't have any repressed and disenfranchise. That's why the Marxist who took over the educational institutions brought it back. It turns out with social media individual echo chambers, and there was no longer a national culture that the television brought our generation, it wasn't that hard. Especially with circular reinforcement, and I've been boardment of new, there's no reason to actually understand what was.
One of the most advantageous things a postingularity AI can do is create a multi-generational starship to some far destination. It can program humans to perform specific tasks it can't do for the same reasons that we program bots today. It wouldn't be hard with total uninhibited psychological control.
@StevenWright Please stay out of my head when I have to wake up in 4 hours. I heard your voice, with your inflection say, "I asked my teacher if she deals in absolutes. She said, 'sometimes.' I don't know if I can trust her." I spent the next hour staring at the clock, giggling.
There are many places I don't go because of the potential of violence or death. I would hope my own daughter would have the self-preservation skills needed not to find herself in environments in which you may be drugged. If she did, I hope she would leave rather than risking it all.
Admittedly, that excuse has been well abused in the medical states. From personal experience, it's the only thing that alleviated a pain for my herniated disc. The opiates just put a poor mask over the pain and made me nauseated constantly. Smoking that flower grows out of the dirt did what the pills couldn't and change the pain to something else tolerable. There isn't anything that should not be used in moderation. You can even drown yourself to death by drinking too much water. Or go blind from too much oxygen. Personally, I believe in having and teaching personal responsibility rather than having the choice taken away. Or should I say having this like you taking the choice away from others because they're incapable of making their own life choices and you know it's better.
@IterIntellectus Interesting perspective. I didn't start making high A's in school until my senior year when I went to class high. Only missed one question out of the entire semester of geometry. It seems to serve better for some with ADHD then amphetamines, but again, everything in moderation.
@Rightanglenews I remember thinking "designated free speeches zones" would be a problem when I first saw them during the George W. Bush administration. Everything in law (and politics) is a double edged sword.
