SENIOR BOMET COUNTY OFFICIALS WANTED OVER ALLEGED KES1,573,000,000 THEFT
Following the investigative operation conducted on Thursday targeting senior Bomet County officials, including CEC members and Chief Officers, accused of theft of Kes1,573,000,000 through procurement fraud in the acquisition of 12 heavy road construction equipment as well as fraudulent payments to county officials for ghost works, all suspects have recorded their statements with the Commission.
They include include CEC Members Andrew Sigei Kimutai (Finance), Joseph Kirui Kipngetich (Administration and Public Service) and Erick Kipkoech Ngetich (Roads); Chief Officers Eric Kipyegon Chepkwony (Finance), Solomon Kiprotich Kimetto (Water and Sanitation); Director of Procurement Beatrice Chepkoech Rotich and Roads Engineer Victor Cheruiyot, who was caught with 121 stamps believed to be for making fake documents used in effecting payments for ghost construction works.
The operation yielded valuable evidentiary material that will support finalization of the investigation whose outcome will inform prosecution of culpable persons and recovery of any corruptly acquired assets.
