Delicious to see this. The government’s failure to deliver on a key manifesto promise to end leasehold for good is now hitting developers in the pocket. Buyers, including overseas investors, have wised up and refuse to become debt slaves to freeholders. https://t.co/Qz7M8tFFEm
Went for a beer with a visitor tonight. She pays £15 per day in leasehold charges on her small flat. £15 per day. In Manchester. Can’t afford the charge, can’t sell the flat because of it.
Madness.

The flat being raffled is in a high-rise, has a short lease and a service charge over 5k pa, so it's unsellable, just like thousands of similar flats across London.

When Gina Sapsted bought her £300,000 two-bed flat in London, she never dreamt she would be selling it a decade later for a fiver.

Reading terrible stories like this and thinking of the many we don't hear about. There are fire sales happening all over the country as a direct consequence of both the previous and current governments making victims of the building safety crisis pay. Shameful.
Today we met with @SamanthaDixonMP ahead of tomorrow’s King’s Speech.
The Remediation Bill is simply too little, too late. It won't make homes safe, protect leaseholders or speed up remediation any time soon.
Labour is still failing to get a grip on the building safety crisis.
.@SteveReedMP that's what we were telling you to do ever since you became the Housing Secretary.
But you refused to listen, put on a silly hat & backed rogue builders while ignoring their innocent #leaseholder victims.
You reap what you sow. #BuildingSafetyCrisis
Leasehold is a system of upper-class corruption that keeps the people down, and which Parliament has talked about abolishing since the 1880s.
@UKLabour were elected to END it.
On Thursday, leaseholders can show they matter more than corporate lobbyists. https://t.co/2PZc0gUkRC
If you’re a leaseholder and you vote for Labour tomorrow, then you are part of the problem.
Send Labour a message that their lies to leaseholders will not be tolerated by voting them out in local elections.
Repossession number 30 yesterday, out of a block of 158 flats. Zero valued because of high service charges and doubling ground rents. Can’t pay, can’t sell and Labour does nothing. I’ll vote for Lutfur Rahman over these crooks in Tower Hamlets on Thursday. Anyone but Labour
The outright abolition of leasehold overnight is almost certainly impossible and we won’t pretend otherwise.
But this Labour government is bringing the feudal leasehold system to an orderly end in this Parliament.

If a #leaseholder has rented their flat out & wants to sell, they ask their tenant to move out.
But as @tomcopley knows full well, many flats are NOT selling for years.
Flat cannot be let out for one year if we can't sell.
Harming leaseholders has become a sport for @UKLabour.
