Nineteen months ago today, the Meitei community began an ethnic cleansing against the indigenous tribal groups—Kuki, Zomi, and Hmar—in Manipur.

The violence, led by Arambai Tenggol leader Korounganba in the areas of Kangvai and Torbung, continues till today.

The State of Manipur has been ensnared in a protracted and debilitating cycle of violence, spanning a perilous 18 months. This calamitous conflict has been exacerbated by the Chief Minister's overt and partisan stance, which has palpably inflamed tensions and entrenched divisions between the #Kuki and #Meitei communities, fostering a toxic atmosphere of animosity and distrust that threatens to consume the very fabric of Manipuri society.

The humanitarian fallout of this crisis has been nothing short of catastrophic, leaving in its wake a trail of devastation, despair, and desperation that stretches as far as the eye can see. The #Kukis and #Meiteis, both integral components of Manipur's rich cultural tapestry, have been pitted against each other in a maelstrom of violence and recrimination, their once-peaceful coexistence now a distant memory, lost in the fog of hatred and intolerance.

The once-thriving Streets of the State have been transformed into a battleground, with innocent lives lost, homes reduced to smouldering rubble, and both communities displaced and traumatized. The socio-economic fabric of Manipur has also been severely frayed by this conflict, leaving the State teetering on the brink of economic collapse, its future hanging precariously in the balance.

The root causes of the conflict, including the State's brazen attempts to forcefully usurp and confiscate Tribal Land Rights, the egregious minimization of Employment opportunities for Tribal Communities in the Hills, and the perceived marginalization of minority Tribals by the majoritarian Valley peoples, must be addressed with utmost urgency and sincerity. These issues have been festering for decades, creating an environment of simmering tensions and hostility that has been exacerbated by the State Government's complicity, ineptitude and apathy.

The role of Militant Outfits and Extremist Groups belonging to the Valley Community in perpetuating this conflict cannot be overstated. The presence of Private Armed Groups in the heart of the Capital and its peripherals, namely, the #ArambaiTenggol and #MeiteiLeepun Militants, has created a toxic environment where the Rule of Law is constantly undermined, and innocent lives are caught in the crossfire. The fact that these Groups are allegedly supported and patronized by the Chief Minister and his Government raises serious questions about the Government's complicity in perpetuating violence and instability.

The need to dismantle these Private Armed Groups is not only a moral imperative but also a necessary step towards restoring peace, stability, and the Rule of Law in the State. These two radicalized Militant Groups in collusion with the Valley-based Extremist Insurgence Groups, namely, the UNLF-MPA, KCP, PLA, PREPAK, KYKL, have been instrumental in fuelling the violence. Their actions, including the looting of weapons from the State Armories, have contributed significantly to the escalation of this conflict, and have emboldened these Militant outfits, allowing them to operate with impunity.

The manipulative summoning, threatening, attacking of Valley Legislators and their homes time to time by these Militant outfits, radicalizing them with extremist and genocidal ideologies and oath-taking against the #Kukis, and directing them to reject the idea of a #SeparateAdministration for the #Kuki inhabited areas, is a stark reminder of the Central Government's failure to assert its authority, and its inability to protect the lives and well-being of its citizens.
