The timeline goes like this:

@sriramk is appointed to Whitehouse. Woke MAGA right starts with misinformation and twisting his tweets, for example portraying that he wants unlimited immigration (especially from India), when Sriram had only advocated for per-country cap removal, and not increase in immigration or H1B.

The discourse quickly evolves into constant disparaging of Indians, denigrating the culture, practices and everything in between. Words like "pajeets", "street shitters", "rapists" are casually thrown around interspersed with "cheap labor", "job stealers" and other colorful words.

X becomes a cesspool of hatred against Indians, not just from random anonymous sockpuppet accounts, but also from several large *verified* accounts with hundreds of thousands of followers. Pics/videos of Indians in the US (e.g from Costco) are posted to make "some" points.

25 year DOGE kid is found to have views like "normalize Indian hate", "I was a racist before it was cool to do so", "eugenic immigration policy" and so on. VP of the United States jumps in to support the rehiring of the kid, no questions asked. No consequences at all.

But, ofcourse, its the Indian community that is over reacting.

While @X is all heated up with debate around H1B & high skilled immigration, including per-country caps, here is some perspective:

Employment based category (140,000 or 13% of total) is the ONLY category in legal immigration where the applicants actually have to go through labor market test, often times over and over again, only to be scapegoated into being called "cheap labor" and "replacing american workers"

When it comes to culture, I think @VivekGRamaswamy is right. Children who had a parent on an H-1B visa represented 30 out of 40 finalists in the Intel Science Talent Search, one of the most prestigious science competitions for high schoolers living in the U.S.

H-1Bs aren't just among the best and brightest in the world, they also raise children who are also the best and brightest.

Never forget this. Not a word from the illiberal Indian left for a full week as H1-B workers from India faced the vilest vilification. They watched with 🍿 emojis.

Now they slide in to your TL’s with “you reap what you sow” or “I’m so here for this” or the “no such thing as Hinduphobia” chant.

We deserve it, they say. They call those vulnerable H1-B Indians with such ludicrously delicate legal status as casteist, Islamophobic or white adjacent or whatever. They also call HAF “Hindutva” because we dared to speak in the halls of the US Congress for Kashmiri Pandits or Bangladeshi and Pakistani Hindus—all the while saying there is no “systemic” structural discrimination against us.

The Christian supremacists are calling us demon worshippers with Ma Kali images, goading us with cow dung and cow urine slurs and yup, attacking us with the same caste claptrap.

What these haters don’t understand is that our community found this past week clarifying. We have seen our allies—of all traditions—speak up and stand by our side. We know what true allyship looks like and we also saw who hid profound anti-Hindu animus and racism under a thin veneer of tolerance.

We move now into 2025 with confidence and full resolve knowing where we stand and strengthened with the support of tens of thousands of our donors—which means we will be here for generations hence.

There are no cashiers, janitors or line cooks on H-1B visas. 🙄 This visa is only for positions that normally require at least a bachelor's degree in a specific field of study.

The H-1B was designed in 1990 and def needs an overhaul. Many commentators online show a very rudimentary understanding of how the program works.

In many ways, it's a scapegoat for a much larger immigration issue. But legislating this whole program away would be a mistake.

Republicans have a significant opportunity to win over hardworking immigrants like me. Approximately 1.4 million individuals are stuck in the employment-based green card backlog, many of whom reside in predominantly blue cities. Personally, I lean toward a center perspective, but the extreme rhetoric of the ultra-right WOKE MAGA is driving us toward the Democrats instead.
