@igor383829 @adamvaughan_uk@globalforests@WorldResources @KemenAustin Same president since 2014 who is a forester as background. All power to them and the large actors like APP to turn a devastating trend around. As Brazil shows.. this progress is just one election and policy shift away to be reversed.
@igor383829 @adamvaughan_uk@globalforests@WorldResources @KemenAustin ππΌexactly. The point I wanted to make regarding Indonesia and its prpgress. 5 years of decreasing deforestation is not really a trend one can or should rely on.
@waiterich @tsfitts@CBSNews How about "whole trees" that are harvested during thinnings that do share an offtake market for bioenergy, pulwood and wood based panel industry?
@waiterich As this keeps popping up... This article can be kept on autoshare whenever this simplification around forest management and wood product mix rears its head:

@NeilSalter4@ClimateHuman No, I havent. I am not a fan of degrowth as the perceived only path to climate (or "fill in any other crisis of nature or society") salvation. Did you have a closer look at the latest report from IPCC on mitigation? The technical summary report. It s quite good and readable.
@NeilSalter4@ClimateHuman I d argue that science does not come to that conclusion. Degrowth paradigm is another unhelpful and likely counter productive stand that is all to easy to use as strawman against quick and meaningful climate action. "Look, they just want us to live in caves again".
These graphs from IPCC AR6 WGIII report make clear: we need to accelerate and expand investments in 1) reduction of conversion of natural ecosystems and 2) reforestation / restoration. Keeping in mind equity and poverty alleviation what would be the best way to achieve this?
@robinsonmeyer You seem to not see the forest... because of all the trees π€·π»ββοΈ ... since when does a forest only store carbon for 75 years or so??
@Peters_Glen So arable land in US actually declined yet they argue that corn production caused millions of ha of land use change? I wonder how they did that attribution... it is like arguing EV only consume the dirtiest kWh of electricity because of "marginal attribution"
@JackPHolst@keshav_leitan92 @WoMaCk_14 @elonmusk@PPathole 1000s of climate scientists and their peer reviewed published articles are a quite solid information base. Science illiteracy Γ la Joe Rogan, unmoderated and with millions of followers is less solid. The "Science vs" podcast does quite a good job in debunking some of the biases.
@keshav_leitan92 @WoMaCk_14 @elonmusk@PPathole Worked not all too great in case of climate change in the U.S or the big lie around the "stolen" election. In a science literate population completely unmoderated freespeech d be great.
@anlomedad Interestingly the more active a forest is managed in same latitudes (e.g. sweden or finish forest) a more effective carbon sink they become. At the same time they supply materials that can replace CO2 intensive products such as concrete or steel. See: https://t.co/R9nrQ0h9vz
