agamemnon menelaus and odysseus all have tragic events coming back. others like ajax and achilles dont make it home at all. odysseus’ glory in the story was always getting back home alive and overcoming the suitors and their families. the devastation war has caused is all over it

idk i don’t think the glory of winning troy is really in the odyssey (text) either. we don’t see it happen at all, we just hear about it. odysseus cries when he hears the song about it. all we actually see is the horror everyone faces trying to get back home

@NedRyerson18 @firagawalkwthme to me, no one seems interested in the ways nolan is adapting the odyssey for a modern audience. they’re interested in “historical accuracy” when any scholar could tell you the odyssey and the way the characters are presented are not historically accurate anyway

@NedRyerson18 @firagawalkwthme i think that’s debatable. i’ve seen plenty of threads discuss that the guilt would not be presented in the same way but it doesn’t mean it’s not there. i also don’t think those cultures are so wholly different from us when it comes to that
