@antoniogm@mgurri Do you think it’s possible for elites to reacquire control of our cultural narratives? And if so, how? It seems like it’d be very difficult given that the Internet exists.
@svdeo21@CrazyPolymath From my experience: getting enough sleep, not drinking alcohol in excess, being in a healthy romantic relationship, and regular Vipassana meditation have all helped.
@paulg It seems like it’s often fruitful to be in the zone between “stumbling into a room” and being overly prepared. It’s hard to find the right balance.
@benedictevans It could be an issue if ML destroys and creates jobs non-uniformly, couldn’t it? Have there been times in the past where new technology destroyed jobs for one population and created them for another?
@sarthakgh It seems like people interpret the world through a lens of personality. E.g. If you go to the gun range, I immediately peg you for someone who fits the archetype of a “gun range person”. If Twitter shapes your archetypes, I bet it has a significant impact on your world-view.
@webdevMason@farnamstreet@SamHarrisOrg It seems like there's a point-scoring mechanism too. If I can shame others for their mistake, I get social status. It's a reputational externality.
@webdevMason@farnamstreet@SamHarrisOrg People hold their enemies to that standard, but make excuses for their tribe. Someone from your tribe makes a mistake? That's just a mistake anyone could make. Someone outside of your tribe makes a mistake? That's just a sign of their depravity.
