How is it that software like Outlook continues to change and never gets any better? It really doesn’t help things when you work in an institution owned by Microsoft.
Look into the actul details that got Katz fired and then read the NYT piece about he, his wife, and their cancerous little circle of well-fed friends and...looks like good riddance to bad rubbish. If tenure were actually in danger? Good. It needs to be sacked too.
@DanLaSota@uafecampus I think my use of the four categories wasn’t from that in particular, predated it, but it was a common formulation at the time. I’ll see if I have any notes or links that go back further.
I wish more faculty spent 1/10 the time and effort on their teaching that they do airing repetitive grievances at administrative structures that largely exist and sprawl because of their own outrageous behavior, inordinate privilege, and endemic classism.
The leadership flight continues. Who's next? Anyone? Bueller? For those about to flee (we salute you?): telling people not to read between the lines has precisely the opposite effect, believe me.

I have a simple solution to the DEI statement controversy: get rid of tenure. It almost never protects free speech; it almost always creates sinecures that at best don't benefit, at worst are detrimental to, teaching and learning.
