A college student tries to lecture Will Witt that capitalism and billionaires are the root cause of young people’s pain.

Then he asks her to explain what capitalism is, and it’s over.

WITT: “How does capitalism cause the problems that you’re seeing for young people in this country?”

WITT: “What does capitalism do?”

STUDENT: “I feel like I already kind of explained that…”

WITT: “So what is capitalism?”

STUDENT: “What do you mean what is capitalism?”

WITT: “What would you define capitalism as?”

He keeps handing her chances. She keeps refusing to take them.

WITT: “Just a definition, so we’re on the same page, because definitions are important. What would you describe capitalism as?”

Cornered, she tries changing the subject to immigrants.

STUDENT: “No, I’m saying that it’s not immigrants that are causing the problems for America.”

Witt drags her right back.

“So what is capitalism? Just tell me what capitalism is.”

STUDENT: “Okay.”

Then she walks away.

She’s not the exception. She’s the rule. A poll of 2,000 young Americans found most couldn’t define socialism or capitalism. And the more they learned about socialism, the less they liked it.

These people can tell you exactly what to hate. Just don’t ask them what it means.

CONTEXT: Capitalism pulled 1.5 billion people out of extreme poverty since 1990. Worldwide, the rate fell from 43% to 10%. Nothing else in human history comes close.

Instead of acknowledging people's very legitimate concerns (some of which are listed below), he is lashing out at anyone who dares acknowledge his record.

-- In 2012 signed a letter supporting Muslim Brotherhood President Morsi, urging him to “purge the media and the police as quickly as possible” of dissenters.
-- Told Kristen Welker he and his family have no Muslim Brotherhood ties while his half-sister posted the opposite: the family “has long been MB,” and their mother worked for the Islamic American Relief Agency (network designated a global terrorist org for funding bin Laden, Hamas, and the Taliban).
-- Called Iran and Israel equal threats to the U.S. Avoided commenting on Khamenei’s death because “a lot of people in Dearborn who are sad.”
-- After a car-ramming attack on a Michigan synagogue, said “hurt people hurt people” (later apologized).
-- Supports reinvestment in UNRWA (which had staff implicated in the 10/7 attacks) while opposing U.S. aid to Israel.
