@muaddibstyle I could care less about "faithfulness", but the erasure of ginger characters, replacing them with Zendaya (Mary Jane too!) is concerning.
@alworldshistory @DiscussingFilm I can quote several lines from David Lynch's version, I struggle to remember anything specific from the new ones. Just that it's big and pretty and stuff.
@EERandomness@tomwarren The only purpose of this is to enhance their own AI projects by using transfer learning to exfiltrate training data from your machine. They won't send the data, but they'll send the result of training on it, which is just as good.
this is the out of box experience for Windows 11's new Recall feature on Copilot+ PCs. It's enabled by default during setup and you can't disable it directly here. There is an option to tick "open Settings after setup completes so I can manage my Recall preferences" instead
@BronskiJoseph It's weird to think that these kinds of meaningless, subjective measures are worth talking about at all. Everyone thinks their little thing is a big deal, this isn't news. PhDs have no special insight into the mental states of other PhDs. This is academic solipsism at its best.
@TuckerCarlson When I was in Russia I was told not to flush the "toilet paper" The pipes couldn't handle it so your put your used TP in a little bucket by the toilet. I put it in quotes because its not bathroom tissue as most people understand it. It was like those brown gas-station paper towel
@XVanFleet@TuckerCarlson And when you don't do it they know you're a rube and will do whatever they tell you. They knew my flight left in 60 minutes and that I had no power to push back (I was 17). I was told to have empathy though - because they have to bribe people too - it's rude like not tipping.
@XVanFleet@TuckerCarlson Last time I was in Moscow I (the only time I was in Moscow) I got the shakedown on the way out. They bilked me for $80 saying my visa was expired. My host later apologized she hadn't told me to put a $10 bill in my passport whenever I hand it to an official.
