I am convinced that this is a kind of measurement fallacy. Because of the internet, we are exposed to so much more "news". Our feeds are literally full of eyewitness videos of and reactions to what is basically local news. 40 years ago 99% of that doesn't reach you. Of course it feels like more now.

"Not X, not Y, but Z" sentences everywhere, the "hums" trope, and plenty of other obvious markers of AI writing.

@conorsen Hadn't thought about this but the amenities in the burbs of large metros are incredible compared to what was available in the 90s/2000s. Developers exported the lessons of urban gentrification to the burbs as those gentrifying urban renters started families and moved to the burbs
