Day 1 beef-on-dirt original. I have never regretted not posting. DCOS @miaflcio, local elected, views my own (if that). RTs, QTs, tweets ≠ endorsements.
Registering this 30 days out: takes about the election results (including "why did(n't) X win/lose," "why did(n't) Y over/underperform," and "event Z conclusively shows the voters share my preferences") are premature until we get the voter file back in mid-December.
I don’t want “revenge”. I want the people who have been openly, gleefully destroying the country, and breaking the law throughout, to be held legally accountable and prosecuted, which is the bare minimum for maintaining a functioning democracy. Incidentally, I also want revenge
It's gonna be so hard for the next six years to explain to new people that the Senate does in fact have a Republican bias, it's just that Democrats have that dog in them
What @uaw accountability looks like. "Frustrated by his resistance to good-faith negotiations, the union shifted its fight from the bargaining table to the voting booth, reaching tens of thousands of UAW members across Lorain County to turn out the vote for Riddell's opponent."
I’d like the new legislature to fund WALL TO WALL public service announcement commercials instructing people how to zipper merge in traffic. None of you can drive and you’re ruining my life
We won. A reminder that you are not dysgenic, a moralfag, a woketard, or whatever these freaks threw at you. You love your world and want what’s best for everyone. Be proud of that.
some view the need for prosecutions of the trump rogues gallery as “revenge”, and don’t get me wrong i love some righteous revenge, but it’s a 100% necessary and practical step to take if you want any semblance of pretending you live in a society with a functioning government.
One thing I wished people understood better was that the resistance to ICE in MN was not just that one enormous freezing march, though that did absolutely rule.
It was a relentless and 24/7 campaign of both shrewd civil disobedience and mass volunteering
I think political debates about electability would be clearer if people would just admit that they are willing to bear some losses or slimmer margins in pursuit of their policy goals. That's totally reasonable! I am too!
Then we can have a debate about whether those losses are worth it.
For instance -- Dems passed the Civil Rights Act and lost the South. FDR won Assad-level margins in part by eschewing racial liberalism (see: anti-lynching bills). Republicans spent 50 years trying to overturn Roe and paid for it at the ballot box.
The relevant questions are: a) Is what you're losing votes for worth it b) do you lose *so* many votes that you can't even enact policy c) are you spurring a backlash that wipes out gains that you made?
I agree. The Minneapolis resistance deserves a bigger place in American history than has been generally acknowledged. It was Waterloo for Trump's authoritarian onslaught.
while people are learning lessons from 2006-2008-2010, take another one: pass redistricting reform ASAP. this might be the last time in ages you can count to a working majority in Congress who don’t owe their seats to gerrymanders (because so many fizzled or busted last night)
People looked at these kinds of maps in 2024, which showed GOP swings everywhere, and decided the country was on a new MAGA trajectory. Trump hadn’t even cracked 50% of the vote. He won by 1.5%. Democrats just won the midterms by 13%, the biggest margin in at least 40 years.
Wish I loved anything like Rs love winning the White House by losing their 1st election, winning the popular vote their 2nd term, mismanaging a natural disaster, tanking the economy, starting an unnecessary war in the Mideast, and losing Congress in their 2nd midterm
I doubt most Americans know how instrumental the @UAW has been in fighting back against the rise of fascism in America.
If you are happy with the outcome of this election, thank a UAW member.
As for Jeffries and so forth, the line should be the following: "We are here first and foremost to make sure every American is fed and keeps the lights on. But along with that we have to look at the people and processes that got us into this mess, and put them where they belong."
