Winning isn’t luck. It’s commitment.
1. Attitude
2. Mindset
3. Work ethic
4. Team play
5. Accountability
When a team buys into these 5 commitments, winning becomes the standard.
Tom Brady on Confidence:
“If you don’t believe in yourself why do you think those guys who are looking at you are going to believe in you.”
Confidence is a choice.
So is hesitation.
Your belief sets the tone, for you and everyone around you.
I'm convinced @DukeWBB Coach Kara Lawson is one of the best leaders in sports. This clip on urgency, growth not being linear, and the idea that there is no finish line is superb:
🥱 Need It > Want It. The people who win aren’t always the most gifted, they’re the ones who refuse to look away from what’s required RIGHT NOW. They stay present with the hard, the boring, and the uncomfortable, and they attack anyway. Wanting shows up when it’s convenient; needing shows up when it costs you something.
📈📉 Growth isn’t a straight line. There will be peaks that tempt your ego and valleys that test your belief. Real leadership is keeping your urgency and sharpness intact through all of it. Trusting that consistency is what will carry you through. Don't let your own impatience with stagnancy take your spirit.
🏁 There is no finish line where you finally get to coast, only new levels that ask more of you. Better is a direction, not a destination. The “ceiling” you feel is often just an imaginary story you’ve told yourself about what’s possible. Growth asks for the endurance to keep going and the humility to treat every day, every season, every year as another chance to get better.
Bring urgency to the way you show up every day. Don't ever give up on your own growth. 🌱
“Those people who can celebrate others’ success live a more stress free, less anxious life”
Choose encouragement over comparison.
The strongest teams are built by people who clap for each other’s growth, not compete with each other’s shine.
Championships aren’t just won, they are built.
It takes many “Ships”:
⚓ Ownership
⚓ Leadership
⚓ Friendship
⚓ Hardship
⚓ Sportsmanship
⚓ Scholarship
No shortcuts. Champions master them all.
"Nothing is really fun unless it's hard.
Embrace the fact that it's hard.
Never hope that it's easy."
Stop looking for shortcuts.
Lean into the hard part and build the habits that don’t bend or break when it gets tough.
PLAYERS: Good teammates have each other's backs. They support one another. They fill in the gaps for each other. One person's weakness might be another person's strength. They understand that they individually play different roles so that together they can have a complete team.
Winners own mistakes. Losers point fingers.
“Don’t be a blame guy. That’s the first sign of loser mentality when you blame someone else for a mistake,
- Kirby Smart 🥇
On great teams, accountability isn’t optional.
Nick Saban asked his team a simple question:
“Do we have show dogs on the team, or do we have hunting dogs?” 🔥
The answer tells you everything about your culture.
This team has so much to be proud of. Nebraska volleyball continues to raise the bar for college volleyball and what levels it can reach.
The nation saw an absolute SHOW on ABC and just proved why this sport deserves a stage like that.
And as for the Huskers, they’ll be back.
Thankful for doors that God has closed (that I would’ve never closed myself), so I can walk through doors that God has opened, knowing He has me there for a reason!
No comfort, no passengers.
We compete with each other to complete the team.
We don’t protect feelings; we protect standards.
That’s how talent turns into titles.
"You need to strengthen your bounce back speed.
How fast can a guy bounce back mentally and physically?
That is a competitive advantage."-Justin Su'a
Great players don’t let mistakes turn into excuses.
Because it’s not the mistake that costs the team—it’s how you respond to it.
