@Madison79665429 I think you are wrong in saying that live music doesn't compare to recorded music, because most pop artists don't actually play live, and their "perfected music" is just played at their shows over speakers while they pretend to play and sing.
#W23POPMUS I agree with his assessment. Most people now prefer to listen to music recordings instead of live shows. this is because music has become more electronic, most artists nowadays don't use bands and lipsync most songs so why see it live when it's the same as the recording
@cmaj709 @mjoel830 I too think it is unfair, but the artists who "stole" the music, took advantage of the fact that there was an untapped audience then they took the best music they could find and put a twist to appeal to new listeners.
@mjoel830 fair point, isn't the point of making cover songs to target a different audience? if all the audiences were the same they would probably just pick one version and only listen to that. I think that although credit should have been given these songs are nothing more than covers.
#W23POPMUS I think it was labeled schlock simply because they were white. Although they didn't write the music themselves they performed it very well, and most of these artists were just performers who took good music and added their own twist.
@erin_mcgettigan#W23POPMUS True, his use of the breaking voice gives each phrase and lyric its own different meaning and twist from the last to keep listeners engaged.
#W23POPMUS I believe Ray Charles used a breaking voice to add a new element to his music and to provide more emotional depth and contrast to his singing.
@lilyjacobs21 Agreed. Not only apple but many other companies have created fancy new products like the AirPods and when so many people have them and use them all the time it can very easily make people feel like they are lesser and have a lower social class than those with these new devices.
@BoonPetersen#W23POPMUS Although I agree,I feel that streaming services have had a negative impact on radio stations that had run the market are now having a decrease in listeners not only affecting them, but most radio stations play ads for local businesses so now they are being affected too
#W23POPMUS Technology has greatly influenced the way music is listened to. Specific with the fact that Bluetooth earbuds and headphones have most definitely been associated with class and status, meaning if you don't have the newest airpods or devices, then you don't have money.
@mjoel830 You are totally right. the headphones I use cost about $100 and comparing that to friends who have spent 2 or 3 hundred on headphones they are no worse and it seems like they only bought them for the brand.
@CDRSquires Absolutely, I hate listening to new pop music and rap. I hear it everywhere even though in my opinion it is all made with simple rhythms, easy chord progressions, and for the most part meaningless lyrics.
#W23POPMUS False needs created by media industries include the feeling that you need expensive clothes or a fancy car, pertaining to music, that you need costly headphones or earbuds. Popular music gets a passive audience because it is simpler and requires less in-depth analysis.
