If it takes a village to raise a child why do plans start with a table full of professionals who usually don’t live in the village?
And when you offer to bring the village to the table so they are there when the menu is chosen, why does that provoke anxiety? 1/

@CormacRussell Yes seen this distinction in the way people “volunteer”. Institutional volunteering involves forms, bureaucracy, health and safety procedures, insurance. Community and neighbourhood volunteering involves spontaneity,kindness, risk taking, informality, friendship
I think this is critical when institutions consider how they work with communities & people. Do they layer further swathes of services across people ignoring existing assets or do they stop & have meaningful conversations to see what really needs support (if any) 🤔
John McKnight notes that society comprises two distinct domains: 1. institutional, where bureaucratic norms feature most. 2. community, where associational life, ppl & place matter for their own sake. While co-terminus in many ways, the distinction is critical & often overlooked.

The police and Hackney mayor claim Saturday's operation was to “target e-scooters and moped-enabled crime”. Local politicians, protesters and workers have a different assessment: it was to terrorise the local couriers.
@RivkahBrown reports. https://t.co/d3gIXKwu9G
My statement regarding the police operation in Dalston yesterday (14 May)
I condemn the action taken by the police. I was present and spoke with riders, @IWGB_CLB, the police and members of the community/protestors
