Players...Coaches will line up to genuinely help you "IF" you're:
1. Hardworking
2. Mature
3. Reliable
4. Dependable
5. Trustworthy
Those are 5 elements of PLUS MAKEUP! Be the player folks root for! Be the player folks want to see succeed!
Help others help YOU!
Kids go in a cage facing 85mph on a machine, get blown away & then slow it down so they can hit it.
I’ve seen a pro face 102mph from 40 ft away, absolutely mashing.
You think he just started doing that one day & was like, “Yeah, I got this.”
Get comfortable being challenged.
Parents...you should feel comfortable calling a coach about your son. But, for goodness sakes, the minute you disparage another kid on the team trying to benefit your kid.... the conversation is OVER!! Also, be ready to talk about your kid's work ethic and time spent in the WR
Players...if you commit to a school...and the coaches find someone better than you before signing day...they'll pull your offer, it's what they're supposed to do. They get paid to put the best team possible on the field. YOU better keep getting better, stronger and more athletic.
The “back when I played” approach by parents is tired. It’s not back when you played anymore. Accept it. The game has changed and evolved drastically since then.
Don’t be the parent who’s player falls behind because of ignorance.
Why is travel-ball considered “too much commitment” by the same people who put their child in a rec league that plays/practices 4-5 days a week.
Throw in all stars, that practices every day and demands players don’t miss a practice and it makes even less sense. I don’t get it.
1st practice of the year, I address the elephant in the room.
That the odds of playing in college are about 1 in 33.
Followed by, “That no longer applies to you. I expect each one of you to have an opportunity to play in college if you choose.”
Easier to embrace the target 🎯
If you don’t know that you need to practice more, & not miss workouts, than it is not your fault you don’t progress.
But if you don’t practice & don’t workout because you think you’re “getting away with it…”
Well you’re in for one helluva surprise aren’t ya?
The game knows.
People who talk about “letting kids be kids” & not taking sports too seriously, are usually the ones who talk about how political sports are once high school starts.
You can’t have it both ways.
At some point, it has to be more than a hobby, or it’ll end up just being a hobby.
It never fails.
Nothing worse then parents who never competed in athletics being the loudest voice in an athletic conversation.
Unless you know what the dailies take, and put some sweat equity into chasing dreams on the field keep your thoughts to yourself.
Sorry not sorry.
From a very good college head coach
"Corbin actually told all the guys from his roster last year that they should go in the portal if they wanted NIL money because they would never do it at Vandy - he pushed guys out- got rid of the selfish people #BOSS Awesome stuff - but definitely a unique place in this shit show we have now"
EVERYTHING MATTERS
strength, conditioning, academics, nutrition, how you wear the uniform, how you walk, how you talk, coach-ability, compete-ability, how you handle adversity, your maturity, work ethic, respect, manners, how you treat your parents and others...what else? __________
College Athletes: I’m not in the advice business, but here’s what I can tell you about BOOZE.
Context: I didn’t drink in HS, hardly did Fr-So yrs of college. (Also have spent the last 7 years completely sober.) Thread👇
-No one else cares if you drink.
-If they do, that says more about them than you. (Thread…)
-You won’t have any regrets from not drinking, can’t say the same otherwise.
-You might not realize it, probably won’t, but people admire the shit out of people who don’t booze.
-You probably won’t notice at first, but your body won’t heal as fast if you’re partying.
-Injuries will start to happen from being constantly dehydrated. -This includes torn ligaments, sprains & pulled muscles.
-More importantly, you need to learn how to handle life without running to a bottle (an excuse a lot of us use).
Last, I’m not telling you how to live your life. (My players can tell you that preaching is not my thing.) But if you find yourself needing to drink or smoke up to get back to “neutral”, talk to someone-honestly a stranger works best for this-and see if it helps.
As always, this is a judgement free zone & we check our egos at the door.
With Love,

The best 12u player I've ever seen didn't play a day of college baseball and was average as grits as a HS player. As a 12u he hit 28 homers in a 16-game season and was unhittable on the mound. He threw GAS at 12. Why didn't he get better? He and his parents thought he was a superstar and thought they invented baseball. They let 12u success absolutely destroy his career. Players/Parents...don't take the bait.
