Everyone's trying to make CPUs faster.
I’m trying to make them worse.
New project: CPU deoptimization.

It is unbelievable how useful liquid mercury is. You can make a bunch of electrical components that have zero mechanical wear, atomically smooth mirrors, vacuum pumps... But they won’t let you use it anymore. Because of woke
@Poi32122@lauriewired Unfortunately, I bought the L version of the S822 which was made specifically for linux support. No idea why two different machines were needed for AIX vs linux.
@Poi32122@lauriewired It is a bit of a nightmare in terms of linux since its the first of the ppc64le which requires a different compiler and thus, packages. Plus, the Power ISA is incredibly unique (and powerful) which means very little softwares actually utilize the full smt capabilities.
@mu_chrinovic There is a reason why this model is used. If you were to explain the modern mid range processor architecture to the average undergrad student who knows fuck all about comp arch they would have no idea where to begin and why we made the choices in ILP we did. Chipsandcheese img:
@ATaylorFPGA Eagerly waiting for these boards. HSIO on cheap boards is impossible to come by. I had to skip prototyping a number of my ADC projects and skip straight to full integration.
Happy World #MetrologyDay 🥳Here's a sub-ppm 20kA direct current comparator by Measurements International in the 90s based on a design by Kusters from the 60s. Single primary winding, matched cable lengths for uniform magnetic field, new readout electronics developed at CERN
@eevblog Sedra/Smith was quite a good read on the theory of microelectronics. Felt like having that background made it a lot easier to understand complex circuits in Art of Electronics & X chapters.
@FelixCLC_@furan Also, if you want to load bitstreams via pcie, you need hotplug support on your motherboard. Last thing I'll say is almost all mentions of the innova flex 2 have been removed from nvidia's website, so you get the software through other sites.

This works, but it takes a little effort to get it working since you have to do some board level modding. Other than that, it works well. One thing to watch out for is that there are multiple versions of these boards and some of them don't have ddr4.
