Qualified immunity is a doctrine developed by the Supreme Court that shields public officials from liability for misconduct, even when they break the law. This means people can’t hold the government accountable when their civil rights are violated. https://t.co/OfwcaYgz32
We’re quick to tell folks not to vote; but what are we telling them about to survive Project 2025? What have prepared for a trumpian judicial system? Never mind the Supreme Court, but the district courts that deal with our daily lives? What of the dismantling of Obamacare and healthcare for the poor? What have we prepared for deep inaccess to medications? What do we do when the civil and voting rights acts are completely unenforced? Who are we throwing to the wolves?
“Police misconduct has contributed to far too many wrongful convictions, a disproportionate number involving people of color ... Too many people have been unable to hold police accountable for violating their rights [because of] qualified immunity.” https://t.co/NG63QJCpTh
“Trump & MAGA Republicans packed the Supreme Court with far-right judges who serve lifetime appointments & keep stripping away our rights, freedoms, & bodily autonomy.

2. In-person visits and physical mail are disappearing in jails, allowing for jails to cash in on greater kickbacks from video calling. 33 jails out of a sample of 40 in Michigan have banned in-person visits.
We get asked a lot about the cost of family contact in local jails. But it’s hard for us to give answers since the thousands of local jails across the US are independently run.
Now, new data from Michigan and Minnesota are helping us fill that gap. Here’s what you should know 🧵

In the DA's race, there's been talk about how eliminating money bail has fueled an epidemic of crime, but LA Superior Court data shatters this fear-mongering lie. Ending money bail has not increased repeat arrests or court no-shows — AKA it's working.

I’m not Palestinian
I just consider a crime against the whole humanity to murder nearly 40,000 civilians. Is it really so wrong to feel like that? Am I really being political just for defending humanity? You don't have to be Palestinian to support Gaza. You just have to be Human
If, upon seeing a man self-immolate to protest a genocide that’s been live-streamed to the world for 143 days, your reaction is to criticise or dismiss, you simply do not understand the gravity of his act or the magnitude of what he is protesting—and in doing so you become a part of the very problem his defiant act rejected.
Tens of thousands of innocent people are being slaughtered with US arms and US taxpayer funding, and US propaganda is working tirelessly to cover this up and manufacture consent for it to continue.
The enormity of this moment cannot be understated, for both what it represents here and now and the ramifications and precedents being set. And the depraved and dictatorial US Empire refuses to be swayed by international law, by the Genocide Convention, by the ICJ, by the UN, by protest, by voters, by tens of thousands of children dying—by anything.
This act, as devastating as it is, is a final, defiant scream in protest at the incalculable tyranny of an Empire that has entirely lost touch with humanity. Don’t become that, too. Don’t downplay, dismiss or criticise the person who makes the sacrifice in an attempt to stop tyranny—for you then become a part of that tyranny yourself.
