“Look how much TALENT that team had. HOW did they not win a championship?!”
Because talent won’t win a championship unless the team also forms a culture strong enough to win a championship. Too many ways for a team to break down.
Talent is required but it’s never enough.
“What I try to be is be honest with them, be transparent, be authentic. The biggest thing is, be authentic and don’t try to be fake. We see each other every day. I hope we have some level of care for what they do as people and as players,” Mike Vrabel
Winners care about people.
Underrated coaching truth:
The best coaches aren’t obsessed with talent.
They’re obsessed with effort.
With attitude.
With toughness.
Because when it gets hard,
that’s what still shows up.
Nate Oats said, "There's nobody above the program
- including the head coach."
Culture wins, not individuals.
The best teams aren't built on one person. They are built on:
• Culture.
• Leadership.
• Accountability.
Programs looking for a tough, competitive guard and strong locker-room leader should take a serious look at Kenny Burns III.
Kenny has been a valuable part of our program and a guy our team respects because of the way he works, competes, and leads every day.
Any program that brings him in is getting a great teammate, a leader, and someone who will positively impact a locker room.

The NCAA is a joke. It’s the Wild West at the D1 level, but they actually enforce outdated rules at the D3 level.
D3 Augsburg XC/track athlete Mohammed Bati has been ruled ineligible by the NCAA for accepting $6000 from the community to help him stay enrolled in school. He had been working nearly full time hours (overnight at a hospital) to pay his tuition.
Bati posted the following on his Strava +

“Doesn’t have to do with your talent. Doesn’t have to do with your skill. Doesn’t have to do with your size. It just has to do with your genuine belief in fight every day,” Grant McCasland
Winning begins when your mind understands what it takes to be a relentless competitor.
